Ressies reach 40 point mark in dour game

Wroxham had the better chances throughout the game but Blofield were solid as usual and almost stole the points towards the end.

This was a pretty dour game on a poor pitch which made it difficult to get any consistent passing together. It may have suited Blofield’s style of play but certainly not Wroxham’s although they enjoyed the lion’s share of play throughout the game. The main feature of the first half was the strong heading of veteran Josh Carus who was head and shoulders above anyone who came anywhere near him.
Wroxham had a scare on 15 minutes when keeper Harley Lemmon tried to head the ball away as it came towards him but without any conviction and for a moment it looked as though Blofield might take advantage. But Lemmon recovered to take the ball in the area with the home side appealing for a penalty as their player fell to the ground. Referee Edwin Reid ignored those appeals and Wroxham escaped.
Play continued to be disjointed although Wroxham had the ball in the net on 30 minutes when a cross cum shot by Arron Attree found Danny Rogers whose header hit the net only for the linesman flag to be raised for offside.
The second half wasn’t much better with Wroxham generally on top but Blofield as they always do started to cause more pressure and went close with one effort that hit the top of the bar.
Wroxham brought on their subs which livened things up again and following a good run by Ben Fowkes, the ball fell for Aaron Attree who got in a strong shot which looked like it might find the net in the top corner but went the wrong side of the post.
Attree had a great chance to make a name for himself when he out witted Matty Banham who recovered and combined with his keeper John Howes who stretched out a leg to turn the Wroxham player’s shot wide.
Wroxham had another chance when a long ball reached Danny Rogers who seemed certain to score only to loop his shot over the bar.
It just wasn’t going to be Wroxham’s day when sub Ben Johnson set up Jack Parker who should have blasted in but did little more than pass the ball to Howes.
With time running out it look like Blofield may score and take the points as they did at Wroxham earlier in the season against the run of play. They had a couple of corners which the visitors didn’t clear very convincingly. Then right at the death Wroxham almost gave them a goal as Carus headed backward from a long throw and Lemmon did well to push over.
The draw took Wroxham to the 40 point mark and hopefully they can start scoring again as goals seem to have dried up compared with earlier in the season.
