Wroxham Reserves back on league duty gained an excellent three points against four times Sterry Cup holders Acle.

Early play favoured the hosts but Kane Wetteland’s shot was way over. Playing on an excellent surface with three changes from the team that beat Spixworth last week, it took time for the young Wroxham team to settle. Acle had another chance with a header that zipped off the lush pitch but was straight at Nathan Pauling.
Wroxham started to get in the game and good run by Archie Galley saw the full back barged over just outside the penalty area. The free-kick awarded saw Tom Rampling’s good delivery well taken by Scott Foreman.
At the other end a shot from former Yachtsmen James Bulman went just wide.
But Wroxham took the lead on 30 minutes with a gift goal for ex-Acle player Harry Maddison against his old side. Acle had time to clear but the ball was passed too short enabling Maddison to nip in a shoot past Foreman.
Wroxham started to play some neat football and almost had a second soon after when Marcus Wilkinson received a lovely pass from Rampling and he skated towards the by-line to get in a cross that Foreman did well to palm away.
Then a shot from Matt Doyle went inches wide.
Aaron Atree played a neat pass to Doyle who should have scored around the 40 minutes mark but he shot wide from 10 yards with only the Acle ‘keeper to beat.
Although Wroxham were in the ascendancy they almost let Acle back when Brad Hyde got forward and he hit a great cross into the danger area which only needed a touch to convert.
With referee Nigel Howes adding on some extra time Wroxham had two more chances to extended the lead. A slick move saw Rampling feed Attree whose cross was met by Wilkinson and he seemed certain to score Foreman pulled off a fine save and repeated this with another save just before the half-time whistle.
Wroxham had a great chance soon after halftime when Wilkinson again got in the area and cleverly lobbed over Foreman but the ball curled away at the last moment.
The visitors paid the price for that miss when Acle equalised as they were awarded a penalty. Ex-Yachtsman Aaron Sanders was brought down by Pauling and took the resulting kick himself and duly converted.
The visitors were not perturbed by this and came back with another good move that saw Attree set up Doyle who hit the side netting.
They were rewarded on 55 minutes when Attree was brought down and referee Howes awarded a second spot kick but Foreman saved Matt Doyle’s spot kick and made a double save from Maddison with the follow up.
A brilliant save by Pauling kept Wroxham from going behind and Archie Galley cleared off the line as they went through a dodgy patch.
But they remained in the game and almost restored their lead when a 35 yard shot from Rampling was brilliantly turned round by the Acle keeper. But he was unable to stop Rampling’s penalty kick when Galley was brought down on 78 minutes.
Wroxham brought on their subs and continued to have the better chances despite Acle pressing for a second equaliser. A shot from Doyle was turned round for a corner and Maddison’s shot was turned over by Foreman. Three more points keeps the Reserves in touch with leaders.
