With four straight wins behind them, Wroxham Reserves were very confident going into this game. They attacked the visitors from the start however the finishing touch wasn’t there and the closest they came was when Harry Maddison found himself in a good position but shot wide.
Kirkley started to get in the game with some neat passing football and it required a good save from Nathan Pauling to deny them taking the lead.
However the opening goal came on 20 minutes and it was a well worked move that saw Matty Doyle pick his spot after being released by a mazy run by Marcus Wilkinson.
Wroxham almost had a second a couple of minutes later when Nathan Stewart was clean through in the six yard box as Liam Bruce in the visitors goal brought off a fine save.
Then Doyle had another chance but screwed his shot wide. Harry Maddison had an even better one only to somehow lift his shot into the side netting from close range. However he made up for that miss by scoring Wroxham’s second from a lovely cross by Doyle. The ‘keeper was unable to hold onto Maddison’s side foot shot and the ball fell from his grasp and rolled in the net.
Wroxham were now well in charge but unable to add to their lead before the break.
They should though have made it three soon after half time when a cross from Doyle found Maddison again and he didn’t hit his shot hard enough as Bruce go across to make another good save.
Kirkley were still fighting as Josh Knight’s outpaced Ollie Ebbage and pulled the ball back invitingly but there was no one able to take advantage as Wroxham escaped. Also a brilliant save by Natham Pauling denied Brad Haylock from scoring.
It was no surprise then when Tim Cole stabbed home from a corner to give Kirkley some hope.
Wroxham changed things bringing on their subs and with Cole suffering a shoulder injury, Kirkley went down to 10 as they had used theirs.
Wroxham made the most of the one man advantage and regained their two goal lead when Danny Rogers flick on for Ollie Ebbage to score on 70 minutes.
The home side then scored a 4th in the 75th minute with a pile driver from Rogers set up by Austin Geradardlan chesting down for Rogers to hit on the volley and give the keeper no chance.
Matty Doyle tried to get in on the act as he weaved his way across the penalty area and was brought down. He took the free kick himself but fired well over.
Wroxham had two late chances to increase the lead but were denied by good saves by Bruce from Harry Southern and Danny Rogers.
This was another good win which will give the side some good heart for next Saturday’s Mummery Cup game against the holders Spixworth.
