Reserves progress in Mummery Cup

Chris Green11 Sep 2016 - 16:53

Wroxham Reserves returned to The Pastures where they started their run to the semi-final of the Mummery Cup last season and came away with 5-1 win.

Home side Dersingham are now playing in Division 1 following relegation and have not won a game this season which showed in the opening exchanges.
Wroxham looked quite lively from the off and created some early chances which kept Dersingham on the back foot. A good Wroxham move saw Shaun Taylor set Marcus Wilkinson away down the left and he outpaced his defender to the by-line and crossed into the danger area where Dersingham did well to clear.
Dersingham started to pick up their game and gained the first corner on 18 minutes which Wroxham defended but Billy Wenn lost the ball to Dersingham’s No 10 who hit his shot across goal and just beyond the far post.
Some of Wroxham’s play was sloppy but they gained a corner on 22 minutes which was taken by Tom Rampling with an in swinger which reached Harry Maddison in the six yard box and he failed to connect.
Soon after they did take the lead when good pace by Cruise Nyadzayo enabled him to get in a cross which was headed away but only as far as Nathan Stewart on his debut, He made no mistake with a vicious return shot which entered the net off the underside of the bar.
Instead of taking control they allowed Dersingham back in the game with an equaliser two minutes later. Kaine Challen deputising in goal attempted to punch clear but it fell for No 9 to tap into an empty net.
Then a low shot from Nyadzayo almost restored the advantage but Dersingham’s keeper got down to make a make save and turn the shot round. But it wasn’t long before the second Wroxham goal came. A lovely thro’ ball by Taylor sent Nyadzayo past his marker and clear to rifle into the bottom corner.
It was almost three as Nyadzayo set Charlie Norman away and he got in a perfect cross for Harry Maddison who fluffed his chance in front of an almost empty goal.
Just before half-time Matty Doyle replaced Marcus Wilkinson who was struggling with fitness.
HT Dersingham 1 Wroxham Res 2
Wroxham soon came out at the start of the second half to score a third and what a memorable goal it was. Matty Doyle on the left edge of the penalty area swivelled onto his right foot to hit a perfect shot into the far corner giving the keeper no chance.
A mistake by Billy Wenn enabled the Dersingham No 9 to get past him and shoot towards Challen who spilled the ball but turned it round for a corner.
Wroxham should have had a 4th when Nyadzayo broke away & squared for Maddison who tried to pick his spot with a left foot curler but shot wide.
They needed a bit of luck when the 4th goal eventually came. Nathan Stewart’s shot should have been a straight forward take for the keeper but it slipped through his arms and rolled in the net.
Wroxham were now well on top and scored a 5th when Tom Ramplng’s cross was turned in by Nyadazayo at the far post.
They should have had a 6th which was strangely disallowed when the keeper turned away a shot straight to Shaun Taylor who headed home. But it didn’t matter as the young Yachtsmen went in the hat for the next round.

Wroxham team: Kaine Challen, Charlie Norman, Tom Rampling, Shaun Taylor, Harry Severn, Billy Wenn, Cruise Naydzayo, Archie Galley, Harry Maddison, Nathan Stewart, Marcus Wilkinson Subs: Ed Abery, Matt Doyle
