Reserves rue missed chances

Chris Green15 Apr 2016 - 09:42

The reserves made it 8 games unbeaten with a hard fought draw against Mulbarton although they again had chances to take all three points.

Wroxham opened the game positively and had a couple of early chances which were not put away. Jordan Attree was tripped in the penalty area for what seemed like a clear penalty but referee Ryan Head dismissed the appeals.
After 15 minutes young mid-fielder Bradley Spooner went off and had to be replaced by Shaun Taylor.
Mark Appleton for Mulbarton looked quite lively as Mulbarton were mainly confined to counter attacks. From one of these he was clean through but Kingsley Barnes had his shot covered as it went narrowly wide.
As Wroxham’s early dominance started to wane, Mulbarton began to get more in the game but the Wroxham defence looked comfortable.
Wroxham should have taken the lead on 30 minutes when Jackson Ramm’s firm drive was brilliantly turned away by ‘keeper Chris Bird but Marcus Wilkinson was unable to make the most of the loose ball.
Mulbarton continued to cause problems and Barnes did well to pounce on a cross from the right with Appleton lurking.
Wroxham went ahead right on half-time with an excellent header by Jordan Attree from Wilkinson’s corner.

Mulbarton came out strongly after the break and had a good chance to equalise down the left but the final shot was blazed over the bar.
Wroxham were playing quite well but still Mulbarton looked dangerous on the counter as they tried to work an opening for an equaliser. They should have scored when Reece Ashman burst through but Barnes did well to close him down as he shot wide.
Inevitably Mulbarton equalised on 80 minutes as Wroxham gave the ball away in mid-field and while Barnes called for the ball there was no cover as Appleton beat him and managed to lob the ball towards an empty net.
Wroxham tried hard to regain their advantage and had some chances but were left to rue the mistake and settle for a point. But it was one more point towards safety with four games left to to play, all at home.
