Ressies unbeaten run stretches to five games

Chris Green27 Mar 2016 - 11:09

The reserves picked up a valuable point at another of their relegation rivals but it could have been three.

Wroxham shared the points with relegation rivals Caister, in very gusty conditions which in the end was a fair result for both sides.
Caister had the wind behind them in the 1st half and attacked from the start. They took the lead on 10 minutes with a brilliant wind assisted goal. Centre forward Liam Williams swivelled just outside the area and hit a tremendous shot across goal that hit the top corner before Wroxham ‘keeper Kingsley Barnes could even move.
Wroxham settled down to their task and created their first chance following some good work by Jordan Attree. He pulled the ball back for Jack Lincoln who had an open goal which instead of blasting from 10 yards, was side footed over the bar.
A long throw from Charlie Norman reached Jack Guyton in a good position but he headed straight at the ‘keeper.
Wroxham were gaining some momentum in the gusty conditions but Caister seemed to have the run of the ball and almost increased their lead when Gaz Ward’s shot was heading for the top corner but took a deflection off Lewis Rivett’s outstretched leg and went narrowly over.
The visitor’s had to defend in numbers as the first half concluded and it required a fine save from Barnes to deny Williams who hit a good shot which was heading towards the net.

Although they had played well in the first half, Wroxham were finding it difficult to gain any advantage from having the wind behind at the start of the second period. Indeed it was Caister who had the best chance when Mikee Fennell’s shot went just over.
Wroxham equalised on 65 minutes with a shot almost comparable with Caister’s effort in the first half. Jack Guyton lost the ball as he tried to force his way thro’ but it fell nicely for Jordan Attree who took advantage with a fierce shot that dipped under the bar.
This lifted the Wroxham team and they took the lead five minutes later. They gained a corner and from this, Jack Lincoln glanced a header towards goal. Despite a spirited attempt to clear, the assistant on the far side indicated the ball had crossed the line and the goal was awarded.
Wroxham now had their tails up introducing new signing Arminas Lukosevicius . He soon got in the game taking a free kick which found Attree but his effort was straight at the ‘keeper.
Although Wroxham had given themselves a good chance to get off the bottom with a win they allowed Caister to get back in the game. Poor defending had already shown some weaknesses but Caister equalised on 85 minutes with some schoolboy errors. A throw in should have been cleared but Caister got in a cross for Callum Mordecai to pick his spot from 10 yards towards an unguarded net.
Caister were now looking for a winner themselves and almost got it when sub Chris Salmon’s shot hit the bar. In the closing minutes they were reduced to 10 men following a deliberate elbow on Barnes but Wroxham were unable to take advantage despite gaining a couple of corners which were well defended.
This completed Wroxham's away programme and they must now start to pick up further points from eight home games starting with St Andrews on Wednesday night.
