Reserves give themselves a lifeline

Chris Green17 Mar 2016 - 21:20

Wroxham Reserves gave themselves a lifeline with a 2 nil win at home to Scole to complete their first double of the season.

Two second half goals from Nick Davey & Bradley Spooner gave them three valuable points.
Wroxham made two changes from the team that played well against Spixworth on Saturday with Matt Halliday getting a run out after missing Saturdays 1st team game and Nick Davey returning from injury.
The young Yachtsmen had three early chances and hit the bar as they looked to gain advantage over a Scole side that also needed points to get clear of the relegation pack but were unable to break down a resolute defence.
Wroxham continued to have territorial advantage and should have gone ahead on 21 minutes when Jack Lincoln’s shot was spilled by the keeper and Davey missed a golden chance to score from the loose ball.
A lovely move by the home side saw Charlie Norman charge forward and his cross found Lincoln whose 1st time shot went narrowly the wrong side of the upright.
Scole started to probe and a dangerous cross by N0 7 caused a few problems but went out beyind the far post.
The visitors were now showing more aggression and had a chance mainly assisted by the officials. A clear offside was not given by the assistant as No 10 ran through and Kingsley Barnes needed to be alert & brave to clear off the forward’s feet with the visitors appealing for a penalty as their player went down.
Then a shot from No 9 took a deflection for a corner as Scole continued to press.
Wroxham were still playing some good football but the final pass seemed to be beyond them.

Scole side earned the displeasure of Referee Neil Jacques as he dished out several bookings for some robust challenges.
On 65 minutes Wroxham at least took the lead. A corner on the left was taken by Matt Doyle whose cross dipped into the penalty area with Scole scrambling to clear, it fell for Nick Davey to turn sweetly and knock the ball in the net from 6 yards.
Scole were still showing some boisterous play with 7 of their players going in the ref’s notebook and he also booked Wroxham’s Danny Roger’s who reacted to a two footed challenge.
Barnes made a good save from Scole’s No 4’s free-kick to maintain Wroxham’s lead.
Wroxham still had a couple of chances with a Scole defender heading off the line and then Roger’s beat the ‘keeper to the ball on the left of the area and his lob towards goal just missed the target.
Finally Wroxham wrapped the game up with a battling run by sub Marcus Wilkinson which more by luck than judgement fell for Bradley Spooner on the edge of the area. The youngster who was Wroxham’s best player on the night mishit his shot but somehow it crept under the keeper and rolled in the net.
This win gave the Wroxham player’s a much needed boost as they go into Saturday’s game with Mattishall who are also hovering near the bottom of the table.
