Reserves book place in S/F with Barca style performance

Chris Green23 Jan 2016 - 20:53

The young Yachtsmen's second string provided a tremendous passing performance to earn a semi-final place against Caister on Feb 6.

Despite heavy rain yesterday, the pitch was playable but not quite up to the standard of the 3G played on last week. Despite that the young Yachtsmen soon got their passing game going and were boosted by taking a two goal lead inside the opening 10 minutes.
On 5 minutes they were awarded a corner and as the cross came over, Mac Gee fired a shot goal-wards which took a wicked deflection off a defender ending in the bottom corner to open the scoring.
Then two minutes later Marcus Wilkinson on the right turned inside to set up Jordan Attree whose left foot shot beat the 'keeper. Wroxham were boosted but this early cushion and showed some pleasing Barca style passing football which was a joy to watch.
Mulbarton were very much on the back foot but gradually started to get in the game and Wroxham were grateful for an excellent save by Kingsley Barnes to deny their No 10.
But Wroxham continued on top and almost added a third when Shaun Taylor nutmegged an opponent to get in a shot which the Mulbarton 'keeper turned round off his legs.
A great shot by Jordan Attree was palmed away but soon after he had another chance which he put away to take a 3 goal lead in at the break. Good touch play by Jack Lincoln and Shaun Taylor saw the ball find its way to Attree who toe poked in.

Wroxham continued to dominate play at the start of the second half and substitute Danny Rogers who replaced Marcus Wilkinson soon added a 4th. Another good move saw the ball played across the penalty area and Rogers scooped the ball over the 'keeper off his instep into the empty net.
Mulbarton were having more of the ball and felt hard done by when last man Ollie Ebbage caught a players leg but referee Lewiss waived play on with the Wroxham player somewhat fortunate to stay on the pitch.
But Wroxham were still creating chances at the other end with Rogers forcing a fine save from the 'keeper and another sub Tommy Knight setting up Rogers whose shot was narrowly wide.
Mulbarton managed to get a consolation with 5 minutes left as their leading scorer Mark Appleton punished some slack marking by forcing the ball past Barnes.
There was still time for Wroxham to finish off in style as first man of the match Bradley Spooner deservedly made it 5-1 by sliding home after more impressive build up play. Then Tommy Knight added the icing on the cake with a 6th as he curled in a lovely shot with his right boot on the left side of the area into the far corner.
A thoroughly impressive performance takes the Reserves into a Mummery Cup semi-final on Feb 6 with the winners meeting either Spixworth or Acle who play in the other semi-final.
