Ressies lose again but signs of optimism

Chris Green20 Dec 2015 - 20:21

The Reserves lost again at Dersingham but deserved a point.

After two heavy defeats, this was a much better performance and could have easily been a draw when Bradley Spooner's shot beat the keeper with less than five minutes left. Unfortunately the ball struck the post and instead of a 2-2 draw Dersingham boke away to score at the other end for a 3-1 win.
Team boss Mark Wilkinson kept faith with most of the young players who had previously lost heavily to Reepham and the Norwich CEYMS. But he added new signings Larry Rounce and Josh Tibbles to the side with Rounce starting at right back and Tibbles on the bench.
Wroxham had the worst possible start at The Pastures with a tame cross from from the Dersingham right back seemingly a straight forward take for Kingsley Barnes only for Tim Pepper to nip in and head over the Wroxham keeper and in the net to give Dersingham a 5th minute lead.
The young Yachtsmen responded well though and good work by Ben Anderson almost led to an equaliser on 10 minutes. Anderson won the ball in midfield and his pace got him past two Dersingham players to set up Danny Rogers who shot first time from the edge of the area. Despite Dersingham keeper Hails closing him down his shot went narrowly past the far post.
After a good spell of play by Wroxham, the home side doubled their lead on 25 minutes. Bradley Spooner lost the ball in midfield and Dersingham pressed forward. Despite attempts to clear the ball fell kindly for Dersingham's No11 to find a gap and shoot into an empty net.
This boosted the home side who then started to get on top. But Wroxham managed to pull a goal back just before half time. Good work by Danny Rogers enabled him to set up Jordan Attree who rounded the keeper to slot slot home from a narrow angle.

Wroxham failed to turn this boost to their advantage as Dersingham started the second half more positively with Barnes needing to make a couple of excellent saves to deny them and keep the visitors in the game..
But slowly Wroxham started to get forward with Marcus Wilkinson looking to be a dangerous outlet down the left. A good run and a lovely cross found Attree who should have done better with a shot from six yards but the ball became stuck between his legs a weak shot was easily taken by Hails.
Wroxham continued to hold a territorial advantage as Dersingham took off their veteran defender Gary English to make some defensive changes. Wroxham continued to control the game as the game went into the final five minutes and thought they had an equaliser when Bradley Spooner ran through and his shot from 20 yards beat Hails and looked to be heading for the net only to strike the post. As the ball cannoned away Dersingham responded on the counter with a third goal which was completely against the run of play.
There were some positive signs from this game but with Caister beating Reepham 3-0, the reserves dropped into the bottom two and face a difficult time ahead to retain their Ang Comb Premier status.
