Stratton spoil Ressies day

Chris Green24 Oct 2015 - 19:46

The Reserves were without several key players and for the second week lost to a late goal.

After dominating the 1st half Wroxham Reserves allowed Long Stratton back in the game and succumbed to a late winner from the visitors.
Wroxham had a good chance in the 3rd minute when Marcus Wilkinson set up Matt Doyle whose shot was stopped off the legs of "on loan" Norwich Utd 'keeper Tom Wright.
The home side were well on top in the early exchanges. Wilkinson cleverly took out two Stratton players and got to the byline to pull back for Cain Eagleton whose shot was also blocked.
More good play by Wroxham, saw Jack Lincoln set up for a shot which sailed over.
Another move resulted in Jordan King opening up on the edge of the area to get in a low left shot that went narrowly past the upright.
At this stage there was not much in response from Long Stratton but on 20 minutes they almost took the lead when a long range shot from Charlie Deakin hit the bar with Kingsley Barnes beaten but Wroxham managed to get the ball away.
Wroxham recovered and from a King free kick, Tommy Knight got in a header that was well taken by Wright low down near the post.
Wilkinson who was having a good game again had a chance when he cut in but his shot hit the side netting.
Finally in the 43rd minute Wroxham took the lead when Matty Doyle ran into the area and was felled with referee Matt Hudson pointing to the spot straight away despite some protests from Stratton defenders.
Doyle got up to take the penalty kick himself and found the bottom corner despite a brave effort from Wright who went the right way.

The visitors were soon on level terms at the start of the second half. They were awarded a somewhat dubious free kick just outside the area which Wroxham cleared but only as far as Dean Mortimer who rammed the ball high in the net.
They had the ball in the net again soon after but referee Hancock had already blown for offside.
Wroxham should have gone ahead again when they were awarded a free kick for a belated foul on Wilkinson well inside the area. The ball came across the area to Eagleton who with his back to goal got into a lovely overhead kick which had beaten Wright but unfortunately came back off the bar before being cleared and the Wroxham player was still without his first goal for the Ressies.
On 75 minutes a bad pass by Mac Gee was almost punished when Dean Mortimer got in a shot which required a brilliant full length save from Barnes to turn behind.
Stratton were now forcing the home side on the back foot and a remarkable spell of play saw three goals in as many minutes. Deakin did well to get in a cross to the far post for substitute Joel Howard to strike towards goal. His first shot was well saved by Barnes who was unable to get near the follow-up as the visitors took the lead for the first time.
Wroxham immediately worked the ball to the other end to win a corner. From this Mac Gee bundled the ball over the line for an equaliser. The goal was awarded, despite Long Stratton claiming it was handled.
Finally at the other end a Wroxham player headed out but only as far as Will Morris whose return shot came back off the post and in the net much to the delight of the Stratton players and bench.
Wroxham had no real chance to recover and for the second week running lost to a late goal.
