Reserves pay for missed chances

Clinical finishing by the Kirkley strike force proved to be the difference between the two sides as The Royalls put three past the Yachtsmen without r

Wroxham had more of the play overall and had their own share of chances which were not put away.
Both sides were evenly matched in the opening half hour with Kirkley going close from a corner with Kingsley Barnes missing the cross as a header went across goal and just wide.
A Nathan Caston free-kick on 38 minutes enable Jordan Attree to get behind the Kirkley defence and he had a clear chance only to clip his shot wide.
Wroxham were now playing with more confidence and a lovely pass from Marcus Wilkinson set new boy Ben Anderson away and he pulled the ball back into the danger area as a Kirkley defender did well to clear behind off Attree’s feet as the Wroxham man was just about to shoot.
The corner found Ollie Ebbage at the far post who headed back but straight into the hands of the Kirkley ‘keeper.
Much against the run of play, Kirkley took the lead on 43 minutes. Elliott Fyans lost the ball on the half-way line and the home side broke away to set up Joel Wilson who squeezed his curled shot inside the far post beyond Barnes attempt to save.

With the U18’s FA game with Dereham on Thursday in mind, Bradley Spooner came off at the break to be replaced by Jack Lincoln.
Wroxham continued to play some good football and had strong appeals for handball in the Kirkley area dismissed by referee Frazer.
The young Yachtsmen were almost caught out when a shot from Aiden Goldspink whizzed past the post.
Ben Riley who was having a good game on the right found Attree with a neat pass but his attempt to lob over the ‘keeper also cleared the bar.
A good run by Ollie Ebbage set up Marcus Wilkinson whose low shot into the heart of the Kirkley defence was turned round as Wroxham continued to control the game.
But Kirkley again punished the Wroxham defence with a neat move that ended with Goldspink sliding the ball past Barnes for their second on 70 minutes.
Straight away Wroxham should have pulled one back when a delightful pass from Anderson set up Attree who had an open goal but blazed over.
Another long range shot by Goldspink was just wide as Kirkley looked to extend their lead further.
Good wing play by Marcus Wilkinson again set up Attree who ought to have scored with another good chance.
Wroxham brought on Danny Rogers after a spell out injured, to bolster their front line only for Kirkley to break away again for a third when Wilson ran through unchallenged to place the ball past Barnes with another clinical finish. Wroxham must have been disheartened by the score line contributing so much to the game.
But they stuck to their task and Wilkinson again did well before playing the ball to Tom Rampling who set up Attree who again shot over from 6yds.
Wroxham finally had the ball in the net with minutes left but unfortunately it was disallowed for offside.
It just wasn’t to be their night when Shaun Taylor’s shot was cleared off the line.
