Reserves gain revenge with Mummery Cup win

Chris Green20 Sep 2015 - 10:01

The reserves gained revenge for last week's defeat by Dersingham in the league with a 3-1 win in the Mummery Cup.

It was a much change side from the one that played last Saturday and included Peter Murphy making his debut in goal.
From the start Dersingham applied considerable pressure and for the first twenty minutes, Wroxham were on the back foot. They almost fell behind on 14 minutes when a cross from the left was headed back across goal by Lee Hyde who found the net but referee Waite had already blown for offside.
Wroxham then improved and some neat passing put Dersingham under a bit of pressure.
A corner to Dersingham taken by Alex Clunan hit the post but Wroxham cleared the danger.
The young Yachtsmen had their first real chance on 30 minutes when a corner fell to Mac Gee's feet but the ball became stuck and he was unable to get in a firm shot and it fell straight at Hails.
In a good Dersingham move No11 cut in to set up Clunan whose shot drifted away from Murphy's far post.
A surprise decision by the referee to award a free kick for an uncontrolled pass back was taken from 12 yards out but Wroxham defended well and cleared.
Then Nelson Moriera for the home side fooled Mac Gee to turn into space and get in a shot which went just wide as Dersingham continued to dictate play.
But jut before half-time Wroxham scored the opening goal when Jordan Attree won the ball in the air to set Marcus Wilkinson away who ran on to hit a sublime shot past Hails to give the visitors the lead.

Dersingham continued on the front foot trying to get back in the back but a good counter attack by Wroxham again saw Attree provider when he turned to realease Wilkinson who cut in and found the net past Hails with another crisp shot to bag his second..
A mistake by Murphy was almost punished when his clearance kick went straight to Dersingham's No 9 but the Wroxham defenders got back quickly and a shot towards the empty net went over.
Wroxham had another chance on the counter when Rob Turner laid off to Bradley Spooner who tried to place his shot in the top corner but it was narrowly wide.
Dersingham encouraged by their management were now piling forward but they did not cause any real problems for the Wroxham defence apart from an overhead kick by No 5 which went the same way as several of their other other shot and sailed over the top.
But a clear chance for their full back in the six yard box should have been put away however he sliced his shot and again it went wide.
With the minutes ticking away Wroxham brought on their subs although this almost proved a mistake as Jary lost the ball although Dersingham failed to take advantage.
In a scrappy end to the game Wroxham for once failed to clear their lines allowing Alex Clunan to knock the ball in the net from six yards.
This made for a few scary moments as the referee added on some extra time. But Wroxham made the game safe with the final piece of play that saw them break away from the back and a fine run by sub Ben Riley led him turn to set up Bradley Sponner to side foot past Hails for an excellent goal.
