Win for Reserves at ninth attempt

Win for Reserves at ninth attempt

Chris Green17 Jan 2015 - 20:58

Wroxham were rewarded with a win in Manager Laurance York’s last game in charge due to work commitments.

The young Yachtsmen made a remarkable comeback to win 5-4 against Reepham Town after being 3-1 behind with their first win in nine games.
Two goals each for Tim Cary and Danny Rogers added to a Sam Harty penalty registered 3 valuable points to leapfrog over Sheringham who lost 6-0 at Harleston. The game was played on an atrocious pitch which made it difficult for both sides to maintain their footing.
A slick Reepham move saw them create an early chance but Andy Handby’s shot flashed across goal with a good save from Ollie Sutton for a corner which was cleared off the line.
At the other end Tim Cary’s cross was driven in with Luke Priestly just unable to connect. Then Cary and Jack Smith combined for the latter to get in a shot which was straight at the keeper.
Sutton made an excellent save to deny No 10 but the ball fell fortuously to Handby who lobbed back into an empty net to give Reepham the lead on 25 minutes.
Then ten minutes later Wroxham fell further behind when a mistake by Sam Harty attempting to clear saw the ball land kindly for ex-Wroxham player Stephen Drake who said thank you and duly dispatched his shot past Sutton.
At this stage it looked as if Wroxham heads may fall on a treacherous pitch with players sliding and unable to control the ball.
But just on half-time, they got some reward for their effort when Smith was brought down and after a few moments delay Sam Harty hit the bottom corner from the spot to give Wroxham some hope.
HT Reepham Town 2 Wroxham Res 1
Wroxham started the second half brightly with a shot from Smith blocked by the keeper when with a bit of luck it might have gone in.
But they were rocked when Reepham scored a third as No 10 did well to get in a cross from the by line for Drake who had the simple task of heading past Sutton to restore the two goal lead in the 50th minute.
It wasn’t long though before Wroxham pulled one back with a spectacular 25 yard left shot from Tim Cary which hit the top corner without the keeper able to get anywhere near.
Then another lovely strike from Cain Eagleton was well saved by the Reepham ‘keeper and Danny Rogers follow-up shot hit the bar as Wroxham saw an opportunity to make a comeback. Moments later another long range shot was diverted into the net by Cary to equalise.
Wroxham now had their tails up and almost went ahead when Eagleton’s free kick was bundled in the net but the referee awarded a free kick for a foul on the keeper.
Wroxham then did complete a great comeback with a lovely move that ended with Danny Rogers sliding the ball in despite appeals for offside.
Another header from Luke Priestly also went wide before they added a fifth. The ball was played from the back to Priestly who ran forward before passing to Rogers. The youngster seemed to have lost the ball in the mud but somehow it squirmed loose for him to tap in to make it 5-3.
Wroxham brought on Tommy Knight, Elliott Wesby and Will Bennett and seemed to make light of the conditions as they created more chances before Reepham gave themselves some hope with a fourth goal in the last minute. But referee Andy Tyne brought the match to an end soon after as Wroxham completed a remarkable win.
