Wroxham lack spark and suffer heavy defeat

Wroxham lack spark and suffer heavy defeat

Chris Green25 Oct 2014 - 18:40

Wroxham reserves hit rock bottom with one of their worst performances for some time and were on the wrong end of a 5-1 hiding.

Team boss Laurence York had some players missing but that was no excuse for a lacklustre below par display. A hat-trick for Richard Brett and a brace for Jake Imrie made the scoreline look good for Harleston as a deflected own goal free-kick from Sam Groves was little consolation for the home side.
Wroxham’s woes started as early as the second minute when Ollie Sutton in goal for The Yachtsmen got caught out and had no chance of getting the ball as Jake Imrie rounded him to convert into an empty net.
The visitors almost had a second soon after but the referee penalised Harleston when Sutton was bundled in the net.
As they continued to dictate play, Harleston did score a second on 18 minutes when Brett ran through to hit the bottom corner across Sutton who was unable to get near the ball.
Then they scored again with an almost identical finish from Brett on 35 minutes.
Wroxham seemed shell-shocked with passes going astray and simple mistakes made. It was no surprise when Harleston scored again just before the interval when Imrie controlled the ball with some skill and as Sutton slipped over neatly chipped into the net

Wroxham showed a little more urgency at the start of the second half and got more in the game. Finally they pulled one back on 55 minutes when Grove’s free-kick was turned in by a defender with a mistimed header.
If this was to be the start of a comeback , Harleston were determined to see it didn't happen. A free kick fell to skipper Richard London whose header was well tipped over by Sutton. From the corner, Ben Warren’s header also hit the post.
Another swift move down the right with former Dereham player Nick Howell involved saw a cross turned in by Brett to complete his hat-trick.
Wroxham were well beaten by a useful visiting side but contributed to their downfall with a poor performance as a result of which they slipped down to 8th place.
