Reserves leave it late

Chris Green27 Sep 2014 - 20:28

Two late goals from Elliott Wesby earned Wroxham Reserves a point against Kirkley Reserves.

Kirkley's No 9 Mikey Tacon looked lively showing Dylan Daniels a quick turn of pace to curl in a shot which Joe Green did well to turn round.
But Wroxham were starting to get in the game and took the lead on 18 minutes. The ball was played down the right for Jordan Attree to send in a lovely cross for Luke Priestly to convert at the near post.
The visitor's responded as Tacon's header was just wide and Lewis Hammond also headed wide before Tacon had another effort which flew past the upright.
This was a competitive game with George Brown going in the referee's notebook for a heavy foul on Attree..
Matty Doyle should have done better with a free shot on goal but his effort lacked power and direction.
Kirkley continued to create chances and should have equalised when Tacon played in full back Ben George who only had Green to beat but shot wide.
It was not too much of a surprise when Kirkley did level but the quality was definitely missing as Kaiden Goldspink's finished off with the ball dribbling over the line as the Wroxham defence stood static.

Wroxham had a great chance to regain the lead when Attree's header fell for Priestly but a defender got across to put the ball behind as the Wroxham player was about to covert.
Kirkley were somewhat fortunate to be awarded a free-kick on the right and from this they took the lead. The ball was only cleared as far as Lewis Hammond who prodded the ball past Green on 60 minutes.
Wroxham boss Laurence York decided to change things with Rob Turner making his debut to replace Will Bennett as Kirkley started to get on top. But shortly after things got worse for the home side when Hammond repeated his earlier effort by again prodding past Green.
It looked all over for Wroxham but they pulled one back with a good move down the left started at the back by Sam Groves who set Doyle away and he crossed for substitute Elliott Wesby to side foot into an empty net.
This gave the young Yachtsmen a boost and they equalised when Aaron Sanders set up Wesby who scooped the ball over the keeper from 12 yards.
Wroxham deserved to get back but were almost undone again with the last action of the game when George Brown raced through but his shot was well blocked off his legs by Green.
