Reserves slip up at Church

Chris Green14 Sep 2014 - 21:28

Following last weeks big win against Sheringham, the Reserves were on the wrong end of a 3-1 result away to Norwich CEYMS

The reserves were a shadow of the team that won against The Shannocks despite making four team changes. After falling two behind in the first half Wroxham gave themselves some hope of a comeback in the second half but a further goal by CEYMS killed the game off.
The home side attacked from the off and scored their opening goal in the third minute. A loose ball fell for David Taylor just inside the area and he rifled into the top corner leaving Ollie Sutton no chance.
Wroxham tried to get themselves back in the game and John Abbott set Matty Doyle away with a fine pass over the full back. Doyle in full stride sent in a lovely cross but there was no one on hand to finish.
CEYMS were looking confident and a free-kick found Lewis Allen who had time to pick his spot but shot over.
The visitors fell further behind on 26 minutes when Mac Gee fouled a home forward leaving referee Nigel Howes no alternative but to award a penalty. Darren Smith made no mistake sending Sutton the wrong way.
Soon after Gee came off with an injury and was replaced by Cain Eagleton
Wroxham weren't out of it and might have pulled one back when Aaron Sanders thunderous shot came off the underside of the bar. Video evidence may have resulted in a goal being awarded but the assistant had very little chance of seeing whether it did or not cross the line.
Abbott also had a chance but shot straight at the keeper.

Wroxham came out far more positively at the start of the second half and soon pulled a goal back. Jordan Attree played the ball to Sanders who neatly set up Matty Doyle to shoot home. This gave the Wroxham players more confidence and they created a few chances without causing any major problems for the home defence.
Meanwhile CEYMS were still looking good on the counter attack and sub Rocco Calafato got forward to get in a perfect cross for Lewis Allen whose shot got trapped between Sutton's legs but still had enough momentum to cross the line.
This was a hammer blow for the Yachtsmen who looked as though they might get back in the game. Almost immediately they had a chance to pull one back when Elliot Wesby was in a good position but was unable to convert.
A further chance fell to Attree with a free header from Abbott's cross but he was just wide. Attree was involved again when he brought a good save from the CEYMS 'keeper.
But it was just one of those days when things didn't go right and Wroxham fell to their second defeat of the season.
