Hat tricks for Hanby and Whitlam sink Yachtsmen

Hat tricks for Hanby and Whitlam sink Yachtsmen

Chris Green2 Mar 2014 - 12:30

Hat trick's from Reepham's Andy Hanby and Travis Whitlam helped their side to an impressive 7-1 win over an out of sorts Wroxham Reserve side.

Four first half goals including three in the opening 16 minutes by Reepham put paid to any chance Wroxham Reserves had of getting anything from this game. Reepham added three more in the second period with Laurence York getting a consolation for Wroxham.
Wroxham found it difficult to settle and to get their passing game going as the home side pressed forward from the off. A 25 yard shot from Andy Hanby on 8 minutes was spilled by Wroxham ‘keeper Kingsley Barnes but he recovered to hold on at the second attempt. However this was just a foretaste of what was to come as Reepham took the lead two minutes later. A rather deft backhead by Andy Moody fell in the path of Hanby on the right who strode forward to hit a shot across Barnes into the bottom corner.
Only a minute later Ashley Dearing splayed the ball out to Hanby on the right for an almost repeat goal.
After Sol Pope was beaten to the ball by the impressive Dearing, Barnes was called upon to tip a fierce shot over for a corner. Wroxham survived that but soon after a long throw by Hanby into the penalty area produced a back header by Ben Soanes that sailed into the net for a third on 16 minutes.
Wroxham’s cause was not helped by an injury to centre back Jack Houghton on 30 minutes. He was replaced by Ollie Ebbage who had started up front with substitute Laurence York filling the forward role.
Reepham almost had a 4th when Hanby set up Dearing but his shot hit the side netting.
Wroxham were just being pinned back and their only effort of note was a long range shot from Mac Gee which went just past the post.
There was no surprise when Reepham scored a 4th. Hanby missed a chance for a first half hat-trick when he shot wide but soon after he set up Travis Whitlam to slide the ball home.

Not surprisingly the Wroxham players were due for an ear-bashing from Manager Kaine Challen for an inept first half performance with Armando Alves being the unlucky player to be replaced, although it could have been any of the outfield players.
For a few minutes this seemed to have an effect but it was not long before Hamby completed his hat-trick with another goal from poor defending.
Finally Wroxham clicked when Jack Smith found space down the left to tuck in a pass to Laurence York who rammed the ball in the net.
But the boost of scoring did not last long as persistence from Whitlam left him with a chance to lob over Barnes which he did quite comfortably for Reepham’s 6th.
Soon after a 7th at the back post for Soanes was ruled out for offside but it duly came soon after when a neat header from Moody set up Whitlam to score.
Wroxham managed to avoid any further goals being scored but overall this was an embarrassing result and the worst defeat for some time which puts pressure on to get two more wins to avoid falling into trouble.
