Reserves rue missed chances against leaders

Chris Green15 Dec 2013 - 12:32

The Reserves fell to a second consecutive home defeat losing to league leaguers Sheringham 2-1 in a game from which they deserved a better return.

Sheringham opened the scoring courtesy of a gifted goal for ex-Wroxham player Jordon Rocastle who scored their second early in the 2nd half again from another Wroxham mistake. Although Matty Doyle pulled one back and Wroxham created numerous other chances they were unable to score again allowing the visitors to leave with all three points.
The visitor’s managed by another ex-Yachtsmen Steve Furlong nearly took the lead in the 5th minute when Danny Rust failed to clear the ball and it fell for James Pipe who was able to get a shot in which was well saved by Wroxham keeper, Robert Juhasz. A minute later they were ahead when James Pipe again took advantage of some sloppy Wroxham play to cross for Rocastle to bundle the ball in the net.
Sheringham almost had a second when Laurence York lost the ball in mid-field and again Juhasz was called upon to make a smart save.
Wroxham had the ball in the net a few minutes later following a good passing move but the officials adjudged that Jordon Attree was offside.
As the home side upped their game York went close with a header from a free-kick but Sheringham kept in front at the interval

Wroxham again gave the ball away at the start of the second half as Rocastle punished them once more as he ran on to clip the ball over a despairing home keeper.
But Wroxham then pulled a goal back in the 60th minute with a good move that ended with Cain Eagleton threading a fine pass to Matty Doyle who shot across the keeper into the far corner.
Wroxham had a great chance to draw level when Danny Self hit a 30 yard cross field pass to Jack Smith in space with only the keeper to beat. Instead of drilling the ball he lifted it over the keeper but unfortunately onto the top netting.
The Wroxham side were now well on top with sub Luke Priestly and Smith both having chances from which they should have done better. Then Danny Rust went on a run but the full-back shot straight at Burke. Wroxham were denied what seemed a clear trip on Smith in the area as referee Choate ignored home appeals for a penalty.
A 30 yard pile driver from Ross Durrant was unfortunately too close to the keeper who was able to pull the ball down but then had to make a smart save from his own full back.
Wroxham almost paid the price for their missed chances when Sheringham broke away and had clear chance to score. But the shot hit the post and Juhasz pounced to retrieve the loose bal.
Despite controlling much of the half Wroxham did not take advantage of the opportunities that came their way and are now looking as if they could be heading for a relegation scrap unless they pick up points soon.
