Reserves hang on for point

Chris Green23 Nov 2013 - 20:57

Wroxham Res scraped a point against Beccles who belied their lowly position in the league.

The young Yachtsmen gained a first half lead from a Jack Guyton header which was held until 10 minutes from time when Beccles scored an equaliser although there was some doubt it should have counted.
Beccles showed from the start they were not to be dismissed and were well in the game. But Wroxham took a deserved lead with a cross from the right by Fernado Vide which Jack Guyton coolly headed home on 15 minutes.
This gave the home side a fillip and they were starting to get their passing game together. However the visitors should have scored on 20 mins when Wroxham ‘keeper Aaron Cranfield dropped the ball which fell for Sean Ray but he skied over.
Pedro Sanha had a chance to add to the Wroxham lead on 30 minutes but he headed over from a good position on the six yard box.
A strong free-kick taken by Laurence York was spilled by James Scott in the Beccles goal but he rcovered to take the ball at the second attempt.
Then Beccles thought they had a equaliser when Cranfield again failed to take a high cross and a Beccles player stabbed the ball home only for referee to award a free-kick for a foul on the Wroxham ‘keeper.

HT Wroxham Res 1 Beccles 0

Beccles did most of the attacking at the start of the second half and Wroxham were relieved when Fernando Vide cleared off the line. The visitors had certainly gained the advantage forcing Wroxham to make changes bringing on two subs in Sean Blyth and Cain Eagleton replacing York and Sanha.
This stemmed the flow for awhile but Beccles were unfortunate when a headed from David Shade hit the bar and Cranfield diving to his right brought off a fine save when Ray forced his way through the Wroxham back line. Then another shot hit the post.
Jordan Buchanon was also through but he pulled his shot and Liam Brock was in the right place to head off the line. Wroxham made their final substitution with Solomon Pope replacing Luke Priestley.
Wroxham almost scored against the run of play with good effort from Mac Gee from a corner but his effort was just wide.
With 10 minutes left Beccles scored a controversial equaliser when referee Nunn awarded a free-kick which was taken by Aiden Lowe whose shot skimmed the bar. Surprisingly a corner was awarded and from this Tom Daniels converted from close range.
Beccles were boosted by this and pressed forward looking for a winner. Fortunately for Wroxham they were off target as the home side held on for a point.
