Reserves suffer heavy defeat

Chris Green19 Oct 2013 - 20:45

Wroxham Reserves slide down the table continued with a disappointing 6-1 defeat against a resurgent Mattishall side who have found the net 13 times in their last two games.

The game started evenly although Wroxham were reduced to 10 men for a while as Sam Neal required treatment for a head cut. A long range shot from home skipper Ben Gillies that Aaron Cranfield in the Wroxham goal tipped over though was a sign of things to come.
On 15 minutes, a looping header from Luke Anema sailed over Cranfield and Danny Rust on the far post could do nothing other than direct the the ball into the roof of the net to give the home side the lead.
For a while Wroxham got themselves back in the game with their passing game but Mattishall scored a second on 25 minutes when Anema curled a lovely shot round Cranfield from the edge of the area into the bottom corner of the net.
Mattishall increased their lead further on 32 minutes with another well worked move finished by Chris Halls
It was becoming embarrassing when they scored a fourth in the 42 minute with an excellent header from Anema to complete his hat-trick and there was still time for the home side to add a 5th with Watts-Sturrock sliding the ball in the net.

Wroxham manager Shaun Howes made wholesale changes at half-time bringing on youngsters Jack Guyton, Mac Gee and Elliott Wesby. Wroxham started to play some better football and Jordon Attree had a chance but his toe-poke went just wide.
However Wroxham were undone again on 60 minutes when a powerfull header by Lee Moran from a corner found the net. Cranfield then made a good save to deny Sam Applegate.
Mattishall made a double substation as Wroxham went down to 10 men when Dylan Daniels hobbled off with a twisted ankle. On 70 minutes Wroxham scored a consolation when Attree stabbed the ball home in a goalmouth melee. Wroxham were working much harder now and another Attree shot went narrowly wide. But it was too late for any more goals as Wroxham fell to their heaviest defeat for some time against a side they meet again in less than a fortnights time.
