Reserves hold Saints

Chris Green9 Sep 2013 - 20:16

Wroxham Reserves shared a point each with St Andrews who will feel disappointed they didn’t take all three after a series of missed chances in the second half and some inspired saves by Wroxham ‘keeper Louis Tibbles.

The home side shaded the first half and took the lead on 25 minutes with a firm header by Sol Pope from Danny Rust’s corner. Before that Saints had already shown signs of their failure in front of goal with a couple of good chances which went begging.
However they did equalise on 40 mins with a scrambled goal which ended with Kenny Reeves shot coming off the bar. Referee David Lewiss consulted with his assistant before deciding the ball had crossed the line and awarded a goal.

St Andrews applied more pressure in the second half and almost took the lead but for a good save by Tibbles help by the post.
Wroxham boss Kaine Challen tried to change things for his side by taking off Liam Betts who was replaced by Ryan Guild.
This did little to stem the tide as a header from James Smith hit the post before being turned round for a corner. From this Smith’s downward header bounced over the bar although there was a suspicion it came off Tibbles who again save the day for Wroxham.
Further Saints pressure resulted in a shot from sub David Okpaka being deflected round for another corner. The visitors had another chance when Scott Woodgate out paced Cain Eagleton down the left to get in a cross for Okpaka who shot over when it may have been easier to score. Alex Saunders then brought another good save by Tibbles.
Wroxham were not being completely overrun and had their share of play but St Andrews were wasteful in front of goal as they created more chances. The home side almost took advantage when a lovely cross field pass found Luke Priestley whose volley was well saved by James Scott. Soon after Priestley was booked for an overzealous challenge.
Again Smith header over for Saints and Wroxham made a change taking off Eagleton and bringing on Olly Ebbage.
The visitors continued to create the better chances as Okpaka set up Reeves who again blazed over.
Wroxham held on to take a share of the points.
