Cook hat-trick upsets Beavers

Cook hat-trick upsets Beavers

Chris Green3 Mar 2013 - 13:45

A hat-trick for Paul Cook enabled the reserves to come from behind to beat Blofield 4-3

Wroxham started well winning tackles and being much the stronger in possession. With just 5 minutes played, Chris Sutton and Paul Cook combined, to set up Payton Swatman on the left, he smashed the ball low past Ryan Hemmings to gove Wroxham the lead. Eight minutes later it was 2-0 after some magic by Chris Sutton. James Bulman lost the ball in front of his defence, Chris Sutton wriggled his way past Basey-Fisher to the byline before playing a delightful little chip across for Paul Cook to glance his header beyond Hemmings in the home goal.
Blofield responded well and pulled a goal back after 26 minutes when Bulman’s cross from the left was headed on by McNicholas and Chris Holmes got the final touch to beat Ollie Sutton.
A great ball from Aaron Sanders set Swatman away on the left and he passed inside for Smith to get in a shot which was always drifting wide.
Hemmings tipped the ball over, after Sutton had played Cook in and Cook's header from the corner went wide
Then ex-Yachtsman Bulman on the left set off on a strong run and his shot across goal beat keeper Ollie Sutton but the ball was cleared off the line by Danny Rust.
Hemmings was called into action again when Ollie Sutton threw the ball out to father Chris, he exchanged passes with Aaron Sanders, the ball was chipped in from the left and Matty Doyle's shot was acrobatically tipped over by Hemmings.

Half Time: 1-2

Wroxham deserved their half-time lead but Blofield started the second half in more positive style and after 59 minutes were back on level terms.
James Bulman won a free kick on the left and Ben Morgan’s low kick beat everyone to find the back of the net by the far post.
With Blofield in the ascendancy, two minutes later they took the lead. Matty Banham pumped the ball forward, Morgan found Bulman who went right then jinked left and was adjudged to have been brought down by Wroxham sub Jack Guyton as referee Mark Timmins pointed to the spot. It was in all honesty a rather soft penalty but Chris Holmes placed the ball to Sutton’s right and despite the young keeper getting a touch he couldn’t stop the ball going in the far corner for 3-2. It could have been more when Morgan won a corner kick, McNicholas went up but Basey-Fisher fired the ball over. Unlike the first half, the young Yachtsmen were standing off which gave the Beavers more opportunity to get forward.

At the other end, Aaron Sanders chipped the ball forward to Matthew Doyle but Hemmings made the block before a superb tackle by Darren Cox to clear the danger. A great turn and shot by Cook forced Hemmings into an excellent reflex save to his left but in the last 10 minutes Wroxham had regained their composure. With all three subs on they had a real chance to equalise when Swatman set Cook ip for a volley which again brought a fine save from Hemmings. They equalised on 82 minutes when Cook's shot took a slight deflection off Basey-Fisher.
Young Guyton almost atoned for his earlier mistake when his shot went narrowly wide.
Then with the clock ticking down and both sides settling for a draw, Cook scored a dramatic winner crashing in a shot which gave Hemmings no chance.
There was hardly time for Blofield to respond as Wroxham took all three points.
