Reserves make it ten games undefeated

Chris Green5 Mar 2013 - 23:55

Wroxham Reserves gained revenge for an earlier heavy defeat at College Meadow with a comfortable 4-1 against Beccles Town tonight.

Wroxham conceded two early corners with some sloppy play. Their first chance of note came after 13 minutes but Jack Smith’s header was straight at Danny Cable in the Beccles goal.
Play continued to be end to end but with few openings created by either side. Cable was booked on 30 minutes for kicking the ball away.
Jamie George returning to the Wroxham side after a loan spell at Norwich Utd looked quite sharp but his header on 38 minutes was again straight at Cable.
The game livened up a few minutes later when a fierce shot from Jamie Forshaw was turned onto the post by the Beccles ‘keeper. But two goals in a minute just before the break Wroxham put the Yachtsmen in charge. A slide rule pass from Forshaw set up Jamie George who picked his spot with a low shot across goal on 42 minutes and almost immediately Wroxham scored a second when Paul Cook turned sharply in the area to open up for a left foot shot past Cable.

Wroxham were good value for their half-time lead but conceded immediately at the start of the second period. Payton Swatman lost the ball near the halfway line and it was swung to the far post where a downward header fell nicely for Ant Martin whose rising shot might have gone over but Ollie Sutton got a hand to it which took the sting out as it fell in the net.
This gave the Suffolk side a boost and they looked more determined. Kevin Waterman was booked for a foul on Swatman as they pressed forward.
Wroxham rallied and had a good chance to increase their lead when Cook was clean through but his final touch was a bit heavy allowing Cable to get down and save to deny the Wroxham striker.
Jamie George also did well to win the ball and set up Cook whose shot was deflected round for a corner.
Wroxham scored a third goal on 70 minutes with a lovely cross field pass from Forshaw to Swatman on the left and he cut in to return the ball to Jamie Forshaw who hit a stunning drive into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.
Cook was replaced by Jordan Attree who soon got in the game and Swatman was also withdrawn to be replaced by Aaron Sanders.
A shot from Jamie George was stopped on the line by Cable but the Wroxham player had the final say when he was upended on 88 minutes as he ran into the penalty area and referee Stearman immediately pointed to the spot. Forshaw took the penalty and scored with a low shot to the keeper’s right who went the right way but was only able to get a finger tip touch as it entered the net.
This win took the reserves to ten games undefeated and they are home again on Saturday to another top five side in Dersingham Rovers.
