Wroxham draw with leaders Blofield

Chris Green12 Jan 2013 - 21:35

Wroxham Reserves gained a deserved point from a 1-1 home draw against leaders Blofield.

With players missing because of County Youth call-ups, team boss Kaine Challen included experienced Chris Sutton and Paul Cook who was making a comeback from a long injury.
The game started fairly evenly with little goalmouth action on a heavy pitch. Wroxham gained the first corner on 18 minutes which didn’t cause any problem to the Blofiled defence.
Wroxham were looking a little rusty not having played together since 8th December and several passes went astray.
The best chances of the first half were from Cook and minutes before the half-time whistle when Chris Sutton seemed certain to score from six yards but a Blofield defender got in a block to deny the former pro-player.

Blofiled look the sharper side after the break and had a good chance when ex-Wroxham player James Bulman weaved his way into the area and pulled the ball back for another ex-Yachtsmen, Ashley Mitchell to get in a shot which was welled blocked in the same way Sutton’s had been.
Wroxham were still trying to get forward and a long range shot from Joe Marsden brought a decent save from the Blofield ‘keeper.
Manager Challen brought off Aaron Sanders who was replaced by Matty Doyle as he tried to sharpen up the Wroxham attacks.
Blofield continued to press forward while some of the Wroxham passing was still poor.
At the back, Wroxham ‘keeper Ollie Sutton was in exclennt form with some fine handling which impressed the spectatotors and he made an excellent save to block a shot from Bulman.
Wroxham made a further substitution on the hour mark with Jordan Attree replacing Cook while Blofield made a double substitution at the same time.
The home side were stretched when Chris Sutton lost the ball on the edge of the Blofield penalty area and the Beavers broke away to the othet end for Chris Holmes to get in a fine cross for Bulman whose sliding pass was just the wrong side of the post.
However Bulman made amends in the 75th minute with a spectacular goal. Out on the left touch line he turned and hit a speculative cross which caught young Sutton slightly back footed as the flight of the ball deceived him and came off the far post and into the net to give the visitors the lead.
Minutes later Bulman almost had a second but again Sutton brought off a good save at his near post.
Wroxham were seeing the clock run down until the 89th minute when Blofield’s James Basey-Fisher decided to pass the ball back to his ‘keeper from near the touchline line. It lacked pass as Joe Marsden was able to intercept and shoot into an empty net with Lloyd off his line.
The young Yachtsmen were buoyed by this and almost had a winner in the next attack but Lloyd pulled off a smart save.
Then with virtually the last attack in injury time, Chris Sutton was pushed in the back but the penalty which was expected was not given as the referee allowed a little more play before blowing the final whistle.
