A dogged display picks up points and faeces

A dogged display picks up points and faeces

Chris Green24 Nov 2012 - 20:53

Following a two week absence, Wroxham picked up three points with a solid performance against Loddon in atrocious conditions in a 2-0 win at George Lane.

In early play Sam Harty’s slide rule pass found Aaron Sanders whose attempted shot was smothered by the Loddon ‘keeper who did well to get down ahead of the Wroxham player.
Then something I had not seen at this level, play was held up for our Asst Manager Laurence Yorke to get his “hanky” out to clear some “dog shit” which had been spotted by eagle eyed referee Callum Walchester!
When play resumed, Wroxham continued to have the better of the exchanges but it was not until 30 minutes before they had their best chance when Jamie George’s first time shot brought a fine save from the Loddon custodian.
The home side responded with Danny Rust heading off the line and before half-time, they had a couple more chances as Wroxham’s composure was lost for a short while. First a mistake by Wroxham ‘keeper Ollie Sutton was almost punished but the youngster recovered to make a good stop.
Then in a break away on 42 minutes Loddon seemed certain to score the first goal as a shot headed towards an empty net but Sanders covered some distance to get across and clear.

Wroxham finally made the breakthrough five minutes into the second half when they forced a corner and Danny Rust’s in swinger sailed straight in the net. The Loddon ‘keeper was concussed in the incident and was unable to take any further part being replaced by No 14.
The visitors were now forcing the home side back and following good work by Jamie George, he set Matt Doyle free whose effort went very close. Doyle was again involved when his header from a perfect cross by Danny Rust was also inches wide.
Then a brilliant run by Harty saw him play a one two with Doyle to get in a shot which was forced behind. From the corner Rio Starkings was just unable to guide his header between the sticks as Wroxham were well in command.
Against the run of play Loddon’s No 11 almost scored but he screwed his shot wide. Wroxham then replaced Jordan Attree who picked up an injury with Jamie Speller who made an immediate impact as his strong shot was too hard for the Loddon substitute ‘keep to hold as Jamie George pounced to give Wroxham a two goal lead on 70 minutes.
As the conditions deteriorated Wroxham seemed to get better with Spellar hitting the bar and Danny Self’s stinging free-kick bringing an excellent save. There were no further goals but all in all it was a good performance from the young Wroxham side.
