Wroxham ship six

Chris Green20 Oct 2012 - 20:57

A young Wroxham were well beaten by an inform Beccles side despite Chris Sutton increasing the average age!

Wroxham included former Premier Division star Chris Sutton up front and son Ollie in goal.
Wroxham had a let-off early on with some sloppy defending that allowed Damon Bensley sight of goal but the ex-Wroxham player fired over then Harry Booker Burst through and Ollie Sutton made an excellent save diving to his right to turn the ball round for a corner. From the corner the visitors were unable to clear allowing Jason Wright to slot the ball home for the opening goal after just two minutes.
Wroxham equalised almost immediately when Jack Smith set up Chris Sutton who showed he has lost none of his touch by shooting inside the near post to beat Danny Cable.
The visitors had a let off when from another corner Ant Martin’s shot came off the bar.
In an open contest Chris Sutton and Jack Smith combined for the former Celtic man to set up Aaron Sanders who curled his shot round the keeper but the ball cannoned off the post before being cleared. Beccles broke away to the other end and the ball should have been cleared but again the Wroxham defence was hesitant which enabled Martin space to send Ollie Sutton the wrong way to restore the Beccles lead.
Danny Boswell came off injued to be replaced by Matt Doyle.
Chris Sutton was then fouled by David Shade on the edge of the area and Payton Swatman’s free kick struck the upright.
No such bad luck for Beccles at the other end when Neil Hurren’s free-kick found Martin whose downward header beat Ollie Sutton on 40 mins.
HT Beccles 3 Wroxham 1
The young Wroxham side had clearly learnt nothing from 1st half mistakes as Booker almost scored immediately after the break but shot wide.
Another free-kick should have resulted in a foul on the Wroxham keeper who dropped the ball while being barged but the referee surprised everyone by allowing play to continue for Tom Roberts to slam the ball home to make it 4-1 with Sutton lying prostrate on the deck injured.
Chris Sutton and Smith again combined to set up Sanders who should have scored but again Beccles broke away to show how it should be done as Hurren scored at the other end for Beccles’ 5th.
Wroxham heads dropped and they almost conceded a 6th when Hurren crossed for Martin whose header crashed against the bar.
Wroxham made further substitutions but were unable to stop Beccles who scored a 6th through Booker.
Finally the visitors pulled one back when Doyle set up Payton Swatman for a tap in and they might have had another when the referee pointed to the spot after Chris Sutton was brought down. But Jack Smith’s spot kick was saved by Cable who made a double save to deny the follow-up from Doyle.
A good pass from Jahi Bingham again set up Doyle whose shot was turned round by Cable as Wroxham finished strongly but suffered a heavy defeat.
