Lifeboatmen beat Yachtsmen

Lifeboatmen beat Yachtsmen

Chris Green13 Oct 2012 - 21:15

Wroxham Reserves were beaten 4-2 by Div 1 side Caister Utd in the Mummery Cup

Wroxham were given an early warning as Danny Heller waltzed past several Wroxham players before shooting wide in the opening minute. Wroxham took time to settle and were unable to get their passing game going. But they almost took the lead on 7 minutes when the ball was worked nicely from the back to Jamie George who neatly set Payton Swatman through one on one with the ‘keeper who but the youngster
lost control as he rounded the keeper and overran the ball out of play.
Caister came back with Heller again involved as he found space in the area to lob Sutton but his attempt went over the top.
Wroxham were getting more of the ball and Joe Marsden went on a run to get in a cross for Jamie George whose head was tipped over by Lee Craig in the Caister goal. From the corner Roscoe Hipperson had a free header but he powered over.
A mistake at the back by Jordon Attree allowed Haller another chance but he shot into the side netting.
Then Nicky Crawley beat Sutton to the ball and seemed certain to score as he turned away from the Wroxham keeper to direct his shot towards goal but the Wroxham keeper got back to save on the line.
Ben Jones was beaten down the left as Caister got in another cross to set up Keiran Hack who shot wide when he should have done better.
Wroxham seemed to have got control as the half-time approached only for the home side to take the lead when a cross from the right found Nicky Crawley who headed past Sutton. There was hardly time to even restart the game.

The visitors were clearly shaken by this setback and almost went further behind immediately after the break when Hack was put through only for Sutton’s outstretched leg to deny him.
Wroxham were soon back in the game when Swatman was brought down by the Caister keeper for Jamie George to equalise from the spot driving his shot down the middle on 48 minutes.
Caister restored their lead straight from the kick-off as a comedy of errors allowed Nicholls to tap in and make it 2-1.
The visitors were shell-shocked on 50 minutes when the Lifeboatmen scored a third with a brilliant 25 yarder on the run from Haller curled round Sutton’s full stretch dive came off the post and went in to the delight of the home supporters and the Caister players. This was a goal that would have graced any game and certainly lifted Caister.
The Wroxham management responded by taking off Jack Smith and putting on Matt Doyle in a 4-4-2 formation. They had a chance to pull one back when Doyle crossed for Swatman who had time to score from 5 yards but delayed and Caister cleared.
A shot from Joe Marsden was turned round as Wroxham forced three corners in quick succession.
But then another mistake put paid to them getting back as Attree’s pass back was not strong enough allowing Hack to round Sutton and roll the ball into an empty net.
Jamie George who battled hard with little reward was replaced by Aaron and Wroxham finally got a goal back on 87 minutes when Swatman’s free-kick was spilled by the keeper for Roscoe Hipperson to follow.
Wroxham applied more pressure in the closing minutes which might have brought them level but for two excellent saves by Craig to deny Swatman and Hipperson. But in the end it was too late and Wroxham were out.
Good luck to Caister in the quarter final where they are away to Acle
