Reserves win takes them up to 4th

Chris Green24 Oct 2012 - 15:30

Following a comprehensive defeat on Saturday, Wroxham Reserves bounced back with a 3-2 win over Hempnal/

The game sprung to life on 25 minutes when Matthew Cobb opened the scoring for Hempnall. Taking advantage of indecision in the Wroxham defence and with home keeper Ollie Sutton off his line he ran forward to slide the ball home.
Wroxham were soon back in the game with an equaliser when Jamie Speller’sclinical low shot from 20 yards found the gap between the Hempnall keeper Aaron Bunn and the post.
The home side were not level for long as Hempnall again took the lead when Joel Howard made an incisive run and cross from the right for Richard Leather to hit the roof of the net giving young Sutton no chance.
The young Wroxham side were thrown out of their stride for a few minutes but then levelled again when Matt Doyle outpaced the visitors defence and drawing Bunn from his goal, went round the keeper to shoot into an empty net.
The home side should then have taken the lead three minutes before half-time when a cross from the left found Spellar who missed an open goal.

Wroxham came out all guns blazing for the second half and James Thorpe cleared Gavin Lemmon’s free-kick off the line before Bunn made a brilliant save from Chris Sutton’s follow-up.
Wroxham had more chances but some poor finishing kept the score level as Hempnall caused a few problems on the counter with Martin McNeil booked for a foul tackle in one of their raids.
Wroxham continued to be wasteful notably when Payton Swatman blazed over but the youngster then played a part in Wroxham’s winning goal on 80 minutes when his teasing cross was spilled by Bunn and the ball fell for goal poacher Aaron Sanders to poke home as he too had earlier missed a sitter.
Joe Marsden teased the Hempnall defence by taking on everybody but his final shot was weak.
The home side had a great chance to go further ahead when Swatman’s perfect cross fell for Marsden who missed an open goal.
With assessors aplenty, referee upset the home fans by booking Jack Smith for what seemed a perfectly fair challenge.
Ollie Sutton made a couple of smart saves but Wroxham held on to take the points and jump up to 4th place although they have played more games than the six other clubs all on 13 points
