Reserves lose by the only goal

Chris Green22 Sep 2012 - 21:12

Wroxham Reserves playing their first home game of the season fell to the only goal from Mattishall despite controlling much of the game.

With 1st team call-ups Wroxham had to include a number of young players from the U18's.
In bright sunshine the game started off evenly but Mattishall took the lead on 15 minutes with a well worked move down the left. Steve Davis got to the bye line and pulled the ball back for Christain Harbour to place a shot wide of Sutton to open the score. Soon after the visitors had a another chance but the young Wroxham keeper made a great save to block a goal bound effort as Mattishal continued to create chances.
Slowly Wroxha m broke the stranglehold and were playing some decent passing football to create some openings themselves. A cross from the right reached Jack Smith who got in a firm header which was well taken by Pledger.
Wroxham created another good chance when Ben Jones crossed for Jamie George in space but he was unable to direct which was straight at Pledger.
Then the visitors keeper made a brilliant one handed save to deny Matt Doyle as Wroxham piled on quite a lot of pressure without any reward.

The second half followed the same pattern with Wroxham doing most of the attacking but lacking any rea l penetration in the final third.
The best chance came when Cain Eagleton whipped the ball in for Aaron Sanders to hit on the volley to produce a smart save from Pledger. The visitors goalkeeper had to make a couple more saves but was well supported by his defence who held out to take the points.
