Amazing comeback for Reserves at Spixworth

Amazing comeback for Reserves at Spixworth

Chris Green16 Sep 2012 - 22:55

Wroxham Reserves staged a remarkable comeback from two goals behind to get a draw despite being down to 10 men.

Wroxham forced a succession of early corners and from the second of these Ross Bilham in the Spixworth goal made a brilliant save to tip over a drive from Ben Jones.
After that Wroxham rather lost their way as Spixworth took charge taking the lead in the 14th minute when No 11 burst past Sam Campbell into the penalty area to hit a rising shot in the far corner that gave Olie Sutton no chance.
A weak goal kick from Sutton almost brought a second as it was returned and both the young keeper and Ben Lewis hesitated allowing Danny Brown to get in a shot which Sutton did well to save.
Spixworth did add to their tally on 32 minutes as good play by Danny Pennell enabled him to get in a perfect cross for No 10 to head home.
Spixworth were piling on the pressure for the Wroxham defence and nearly had a third but shot wide.
Wroxham were looking distinctly light weight as they were lucky to be only the two goals behind at half-time.

Soon after the break the Wroxham management changed things with Jordan Attree on for Aaron Sanders but still Spixworth were still in the driving seat as Danny Brown and No 10 combined for Brown to get in a shot which missed the far post by inches.
Then a double substitution with Ross Durrant and Sam Campbell being replaced by Matt Doyle & Cain Eagleton seemed to give the young Yachtsmen some confidence as they started to pass the ball around. But unfortunately they then went down to 10 men when Rio Starkings hobbled off after a hefty challenge.
Rather than deflate the Wroxham side they appeared to have their spirits lifted although they had a lucky let off when Eagleton failed to control the ball and No 4 shot across goal just missing the far post.
The visitors then pulled back what appeared to be a consolation in the 80th minute as a bullet free kick from all of 25yards hit the top corner.
Then an equaliser came from another free kick as Jones played wide to Danny Boswell who drilled the ball low in the danger area where Jack Smith got the slightest of touches to find the net at the far post.
Spixworth were now all at sea and the comeback was almost complete when Wroxham had a another chance to settle the game but in the end were pleased to take a point.
