Wroxham paid the price for several missed chances as St Johns completed a double over the Yachtsmen

From the opening moments of the game the contrasting styles of play were very apparent with Wroxham playing a passing game while St Johns were more direct and robust.

Wroxham were almost caught out on 20 mins when a lob from Luke Tuttle was heading goalwards until Jordan Attree rushed across to clear off the line.

David Matthews had a good chance for the visitors but shot wide.

However they did take the lead midway through the half after winning a corner. As the ball came over the Wroxham defence froze and an unmarked Craig Fewtrell stabbed the ball home.

Wroxham were playing the better football but their shots on goal were restricted until Ashley Mitchell was brought down near the end of the half and Ryan Oakley’s free-kick was well saved by Craig Vincent in the St Johns goal.

Good work by Jamie George produced a low cross from the right which evaded everyone and only need a touch to divert in the net.

Wroxham started the second half with a change as Jordan Mace came on for Campbell who had been injured just before the break in a strong but fair challenge with Matthews.

Then a free kick from Shaun Dunthorne hit the post and Jamie George’s follow-up was cleared off the line.

Wroxham were having the better of the exchanges and Dunthorne set up Oakley who tried to place his shot but was too close to keeper Vincent.

The Yachtsmen had a great chance when Ryan Oakley set up Dunthorne who was clean thro’ and the keeper brought off a great save.

Wroxham hade a further chance when Rio Starkings punted the ball forward to Jamie George who cut inside and found Ashley Mitchell who clipped the ball over the top.

A goalbound 25 yarder from Matty Racher for St Johns was fortunately deflected for a corner but nothing came of it.

Another good Wroxham move saw George’s cross again find Dunthorne whose shot was cleared off the line.

While Wroxham were creating but missing chances, there was no mistake from Mathews for St Johns who on 80 mins hit a 30 yard shot which bounced in front of Liam Still on the greasy surface and completely deceived the Wroxham keeper before entering the net.

Matt Racher for St Johns was sent off shortly before the end with a second booking. But try as they may Wroxham were unable get past the St Johns defence who duly picked up the points.

Wroxham Res: Liam Still, Jordan Attree, Danny Rust, Rio Starkings, Ali Durrant, Sam Cambpell, Ashley Mtichell, Sam Harty, Jamie George, Shaun Dunthorne, Ryan Oakley Subs: Jordan Mace, Cain Eagleton, Ashley Davies
