CANVEY ISLAND O WROXHAM O

YACHTSMEN EARN A REPLAY IN FA TROPHY. A resolute Wroxham defensive display earns a second bite at Ryman Premier side Canvey Island in the FA Trophy.

Wroxham manager David Batch welcomed back long serving
goal keeper Scott Howie for his first game in Wroxham
colour's this season and included Matt Halliday,
Remy Gordon and Ross Hipperson in a changed starting
line up to that which fought out a 1-1 draw at
Chatham Town the previous weekend.

Canvey Island kicked off in sunny condition's and were
quickest out of the blocks as they tried to make
their elevated Ryman Premier League status count.

As early as 2mins into this FA Trophy tie the Seagull's
were awarded a free kick by Referee Oliver Jackson on
the edge of the Wroxham box.
Kevin Dobinson's well taken kick would count for nothing
though as Referee Jackson blew up for pushing and
awarded Wroxham a free kick.

On 6mins Canvey's Jay Curran had the first shooting
attempt of the match,Yachtsmen Keeper Howie happy to
watch the effort sail wide.

A minute later the Seagulls faithful were calling for
Danny Self to be sent off following a heavy challenge
but the Wroxham defender received no more than a
talking to from the Referee.

Wroxham's first foray into the Canvey half would be on
12mins,consecutive corners by Gavin Lemmon and
Angelo Harrop coming to nothing and moments later
Harrop had another two corner kicks that failed to
connect to a team mate.

On 16mins Canvey were awarded a free kick in an advanced
position,Dobinson's well delivered kick was met by
Ricky Hayles but the Seagulls captain headed over
Howie's cross bar.

Play was now becoming tight in midfield as Wroxham
began to impose themselves on the game and on 24mins
Ben Thompson had the ball in the Canvey net following
some neat play but Referee Jackson was alerted to
his assistants raised flag for the effort to be
adjudged offside.

Harrop and Matt Blake both had shots go wide for the
Yachtsmen on the half hour mark while at the other end
Canvey's Harrison Chatting found time and space on the
edge of the Wroxham box before shooting wide.

Scott Howie was called into action in the Wroxham goal
on 35mins diving at the feet of on-coming Canvey
attackers from an Ashley Dumas cross.

The experienced Wroxham stopper came to his sides
rescue again on 40mins saving Canvey full-back
Ashley Miller's shot before Curren had a shot deflected
for a corner kick for the Seagulls, the Wroxham
defence holding tight in defending the subsequent
kick and another that followed.

As in the first half Canvey came out with all guns blazing
at the start of the second period.

On 48mins Wroxham defender Ross Hipperson was adjudged to
have handled the ball just out side the Yachtsmen's box,
Canvey's Dobinson shooting straight at the Wroxham
defensive wall.

The next ten or so minutes belonged to the Seagulls.

Following more good work by Chatting on the left,
James Hawes shot narrowly wide for Canvey before the
Essex side failed to capitalise on consecutive corner
kicks,Howie then saving from Curran's shot, the resulting
Chatting corner was headed over by Canvey skipper Hayles.

On 59mins Curran saw his effort sail wide for the Seagulls
before Wroxham made their first change of the afternoon,
Ben Jones replacing Angelo Harrop.

Wroxham were awarded a free kick just after the hour mark
Lemmon's kick being met by Josh Carus who headed wide.

The Yachtsmen had their best chances of the match around
the seventieth minute,Remy Gordon found himself with time
and space in the Canvey penalty area but the young
full backs shot lacked power firing straight at Seagulls
keeper Ashley Jones before Ben Jones miss kicked his
effort when in on the Canvey goal.

Canvey then saw their best chance go begging on 72mins
when newly arrived substitute Danny Heale received the
ball from Dobinson on the Wroxham six yard line but he
fired his shot wide.

On 78mins Matt Blake made way for Jamie Speller for
Wroxham shortly before Eastaugh replaced captain
Gavin Lemmon.

The result of the game could not be predicted with ten
minutes to play as both sides went in search of a winner
but likewise neither defence were prepared to give
an inch.

Eastaugh was booked by Referee Jackson on 90mins,the
Wroxham substitute conceding a free kick on the edge
of his sides penalty area,Canvey's Dumas's kick being
cleared for a corner.

Wroxham keeper Howie being fouled while contesting the
resulting Canvey corner.
