Dan Williams clipped the bar with a near post header after three minutes for the visitors, before Joe Marsden had a header of his own cleared off the line with 24 minutes gone.
Wroxham were on top for long periods but couldn’t find the back of the net – a familiar story for most of the season – and they were made to pay as Terry Griffiths reacted quickest from Robert Juhasz’s 59th minute save to smash across the box and in off Aaron Taylor to make it 1-0.
Wroxham piled forward in search of an equaliser, Marsden having another header cleared off the line and Louis Godwin-Green superbly tipping wide from Ross Durrant, before Marsden thought he had snatched a point for his side with a last minute tap in.
But back came Ramblers, attacking straight from the kick off, with Billy Hunt striking in from the edge of the box to steal the points and condemn Wroxham to a guaranteed place in the bottom three with two games to play.
The whole 90 minutes epitomised Wroxham’s season, with long periods of dominance for The Yachtsmen without reward, while slack defending down the other end in the dying minutes ultimately led to their downfall.
Wroxham made one change from the side that lost to Redbridge, with Jack Guyton dropping to the bench and Ross Durrant taking his place in the starting line up.
Burnham started with more menace, carving open the Wroxham defence as early as the third minute to almost take the lead.
A quick burst down the left released Bradley Nobbs, who took a touch before firing in a devilish cross that Dan Williams got his head to, but could only divert his near post header off the bar and over.
Nobbs seemed like a good outlet for the visitors, the winger almost being released again two minutes later, only for Robert Juhasz to be quick off his line to deny him at his feet.
The game was flowing nicely from end to end, Wroxham creating their first real opening on 13 minutes as Tim Cary was denied his third goal in four games by some good goalkeeping.
Daniel Self switched the play with a lovely cross-field pass to find Remy Gordon, the winger’s cross deflecting into Durrant’s path, who’s effort was blocked by Ricky Evans. The ball then squirted into Cary’s path from eight yards out on the angle, who managed to get a toe on it before Louis Godwin-Green snuffled out the danger impressively.
A superb last ditch from Aaron Taylor denied Billy Hunt as the striker was looking dangerous from eight yards out, before Joe Marsden flicked Gordon’s 24th minute corner towards goal, only to be denied on the line as the open nature of the game continued.
Marsden then turned saviour two minutes later as Juhasz’s goal kick went straight to Williams, the striker’s effort getting deflected across the box with Marsden making a crucial interception at the back post to deny Nobbs and keep things level.
Both sides were creating chances but were lacking that clinical finish at the right time, Marsden again denying Evans with the Ramblers’ captain through on goal on 31 minutes, before going down the other end to deliver a wonderful ball in that found Cary unmarked from six yards, the bounce just deceiving him and stopping him free getting enough purchase on his header.
Williams was a menace for the away side, linking up well on a number of occasions to no real avail. The striker forced Juhasz into a smart stop on 36 minutes from the angle, before having another effort that was easily smothered by Juhasz just before the break.
Wroxham came out with some good attacking intent at the start of the second half, Durrant volleying just over after Gordon’s corner fell to him just inside the box, before Marsden had a flying volley that swerved wide of the left post as they searched for an opener.
Self then worked himself a good opening with 52 minutes on the clock, the Wroxham skipper ghosting into the Burnham box to produce a nice turn, only for his goalbound shot to be skewed over by Jay Kynaston on the six yard box.
The game was following an all too similar patter, with Wroxham playing well but having nothing to show for their efforts.
And like all too many games this season, all their hard work was undone as Burnham took the lead.
Danny Self gave away a free kick from 25 yards, with Billy Hunt stepping up to fire in a superb effort that was beaten away by Juhasz. Despite the good save, the ball fell to Terry Griffiths, who fired the ball across the box and into the net via Aaron Taylor’s thigh to make it 1-0.
The goal unsettled The Yachtsmen but they came back fighting, coming within inches of an equaliser twice in the space of a minute.
Durrant had the first effort, ghosting in late to pick up Stephen Drake’s pull back to hit his effort first time that look destined for the bottom corner, only for Godwin-Green to pull off a superb fingertip save to tip it round the post.
Durrant then curled in the resulting corner to find Marsden at the near post, who flicked on a near post header that was cleared on the line for the second time in the game.
Marsden was fired up, the right back embarking on scything run that got him into the box, only for his effort to be blocked at the near post by Godwin-Green.
Wroxham were streaming forward in search of an equaliser, Drake skewing his attempted chip wide of the post on 71 minutes, before Gordon also found himself through two minutes later, but could only send his emphatic volley over the bar.
The visitors were spending most of the time camped in their own half as Wroxham piled forward in search of an equaliser, but a lack of composure in front of goal – a regular theme in a number of recent games for The Yachtsmen – kept things at 1-0 with ten minutes to go.
Durrant had a 25 yard strike tipped over with five minutes to go, before the game went into overdrive as it ticked into injury time.
Wroxham – and Marsden –finally got the goal their play deserved and seemed to be sending them home with a point, the right back latching onto Matt Halliday’s flick on to toe poke in from four yards out.
From the kick off, Burnham went on the attack, the ball finding its way to Billy Hunt from the edge of the box, who sent a deceptively accurate strike into the bottom corner to seal the win and leave Wroxham mathematically relegated, with their only hope of staying in the Ryman League coming in the form of a reprieve from the clubs in the feeder leagues below.
