Ware snatch late winner

Ware snatch late winner

Thomas Crabb16 Apr 2014 - 07:36

Wroxham were left to rue their missed chances as Anton Kostalas’ 88th minute winner stole at three points for Ware.

In an explosive opening few minutes – which saw both sides create good openings - Ware struck first through Kieran Bishop’s fierce effort on seven minutes, before Tim Cary levelled matter with 34 minutes on the clock, the midfielder nodding in at the back post from Remy Gordon’s ball in.

Both sides seemed intent on attacking with both their Ryman League status’ on the line, Robert Juhasz saving well from Marvin Hamilton-Omole, before Remy Gordon was inches away from stealing the points for Wroxham as his effort went just wide with three minutes to go.

But The Yachtsmen would leave empty handed as another late goal did for them, Kostalas looping an outrageous effort - somewhat fortunately - over Juhasz and into the top corner to make it 2-1, leaving Wroxham three points from safety with four games to go.

Wroxham put in a superb effort from start to finish, creating enough chances to win the game, but just came up short as more late misery left them pointless.

Both sides came out the blocks flying, Sam Harty firing wide for Wroxham after good play from Aaron Sanders, and Robert Juhasz producing a superb fingertip save from Murat Karagul’s 20 yard effort that looked destined for the top corner.

But Ware would not have to wait long before seizing the initiative, Kieran Bishop advancing into the Wroxham penalty area, beating two men before firing an unstoppable shot into the back of the net to make it 1-0 with seven minutes gone.

Albert Donyinah then headed wide and Bafode Carvalho had an effort cleared off the line as the home side looked to double their advantage, before Cary had an effort that was well stopped by Rhys Madden.

There was an attacking fluidity about the game that contradicted the two sides’ positions in the league, Karagul having another effort that was foiled by Juhasz, before Wroxham pegged their opponents back with a well worked goal in the 34th minute.

After some good build up play, Gordon went on a scything run down the wing, producing a superb cross that evaded everybody bar Cary, who nodded into the vacant net to make it 1-1.

Wroxham were on top, Stephen Drake firing over the bar when well placed just before the half time break, but 1-1 was how it stayed as the teams went in at the interval.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first with both sides taking the game to their opponents, Madden denying Cary a second of the game, before the dangerous Hamilton-Omole had a well struck effort blocked by Wroxham’s defence.

The home side had the wind in their sails as they went in search for a winner, twice being foiled by some stout Wroxham defending as first Doniyah and then Khale Da Costa were denied by the bodies in The Yachtsmen’s back four, before Hamilton-Omole forced Juhasz into a smart stop down to his right to tip the ball round the post.

With the game seemingly heading towards a point apiece, Wroxham had a great chance to steal all three as Remy Gordon placed his effort just wide, before Ware counter-attacked to create the opening that ultimately won them the game.

Hamilton-Omole found Kostalas in the box, the midfielder taking a touch before looping a ball in that deceived everybody and found its way into the top corner with two minutes to go.

Wroxham hunted for a riposte but came up just short as Ware held on, leaving The Yachtsmen without a win in ten games and sending them further into the relegation mire.
