No Easter joy for the Yachtsmen against Soham

No Easter joy for the Yachtsmen against Soham

Tom Joyce8 Apr 2013 - 22:19

Wroxham were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Soham, in this Bank Holiday Monday fixture.

This game was tough for both sides to go in to given they had faced two games in three days, but Wroxham went into the game on the back of a good 4-2 away victory.

But it was Soham who started the game brightly, creating a few early attacks before taking the lead after just nine minutes when Robbie Mason ran onto Andrews’ long pass from the half way line to slot past the advancing Jessup.

Wroxham were forced in to an early substitution with Paul Cook replacing the injured Jamie Forshaw, and started seeing a bit more of the play.

But neither side could really threaten either goal as Stanley headed Mason’s cross over the bar and Bircham made a low save to keep out Harrop.

However Soham doubled their advantage just after the half hour, when Harradine delivered a good ball to the edge of the area for Mason to lob Jessup for his thirtieth goal of the season.

McCabe then headed over for the visitors from a Harradine corner, before Mason was twice denied his hat-trick, firstly firing just over after making a run towards the area, before seeing a goal bound shot blocked deep into injury time.

HT- Wroxham 0-2 Soham

The Yachtsmen had the better of the play in the early stages of the second half, but found it difficult to test Bircham in the Soham goal.

On 50 minutes Gent deflected Paul Cook’s strike over his own bar, whilst Jamie Speller and Angelo Harrop also had half chances to get he Yachtsmen back in to the game.

Both sides made changes during the second half with Lewis McDonald and Aaron Sanders coming on for James McCabe and Ross Durrant.

Soham then came close to increasing their two goal lead on 75 minutes when Simpson won a challenge on the edge of the area and McDonald picked up the loose ball, taking it into the box only to see his shot turned behind by Jessup.

The visitors made sure of the three points from the resulting corner when McDonald headed Harradine’s ball back into the middle of the area, allowing Neil Andrews to fire high into the roof of the net.

Scott Davis came on for Andrews late on.
