Youngs Guns inspire the Yachtsmen

Youngs Guns inspire the Yachtsmen

Tom Joyce31 Mar 2013 - 18:13

Goals from Ben Jones, Ben Thompson, Matt Daniels and Jamie Speller helped the Yachtsmen to record a 4-2 victory.

It was a day for the young guns, as Wroxham recorded a victory in Suffolk at one of the most impressive non league set ups around.

19 yr old Ben Jones followed up his excellent midweek performance against league leaders Grays, with a smart volley from 20 yards after a monster throw in from 20 yr old Ben Lewis.

That wasn't Lewis's only contribution to the game however, he was outstanding as he won everything that came his way defensively all afternoon as well as causing havoc in the Sudbury back line as he marauded forward on several occasions.

It certainly wasn't all Wroxham in the first period though, as Sudbury created several good opportunities only to be denied by on loan 19 yr old Goalkeeper Jake Jessup.

The Yachtsmen shuffled their back line around to deal with some below par performances and managed to eventually look more solid as the game progressed.

After conceding courtesy of a missed opportunity to clear the ball, the visitors again went ahead after a fine run by 20 yr old Daniels, back after injury, set up Blake to go head to head with the goalkeeper. He cleverly cut the ball back after being forced wide of the goal to the on rushing Thompson, who restored Wroxham's lead just before the break.

The visitors were fortunate to be in the lead at half time but Second half was a more resolute performance from The Yachtsmen, who increased their lead after striker Paul Cook controlled the ball in the box and set the on rushing Daniels who smashed home.

With the visitors now well in control, Cook was replaced by Forshaw and Eastaugh replace Blake.

A five minute spell of madness nearly cost Wroxham the game though, when a sloppy throw gifted Sudbury a goal and then a bizarre penalty decision, saw the referee award the home side a spot kick after all 22 players ran up the pitch to await a free kick!

Jessup was again to the rescue with a fine save which kept Wroxham's noses in front.

Shortly afterwards, the move of the match saw a 9 pass move end with 19yr old Jamie Speller thunder an effort into the top corner, after some excellent work from Jones, Forshaw and Lewis.

With the game won, Durrant replaced Speller and the visitors collected all three points.
