John Allen...Reporting from Trafford Park..................
Home side, Wroxham, slipped to a 2-1 (Blake)
defeat at Potters Bar Town while Witham were
victorious by the same score at home to Thamesmead.
Wroxham Manager David Batch rang the changes
to his sides starting line-up, in coming, Carus and
Hipperson, McNeil and White making way.
A crowd of 321 observed a one minutes silence
in honour of Kenny Cooke, the Yachtsmen stalwart
and former Tresurer who had passed away
following a period of illness.
Wroxham kicked off and from the start both sides
made their attacking intentions clear, however,
neither side was prepared to give an inch and the
game was 10mins old before the first real effort
on goal, Witham's Pearman shooting over from
distance.
A minute later Witham striker Hunt broke away
but would be disapointed to see his shot go wide.
It was then the Yachtsmen on the attack, Blake
bursting foward and latching on to a pin-point
Josh Carus through ball but Referee
Alistair Wilson blew for off-side before Blake
could get his shot away.
And it was Blake again two minutes later who
found himself through on goal but his effort
did not trouble Sambridge in the Witham goal.
On 15min Witham wide man Fountain sent
over a telling left-foot cross which was
mis-headed by Carus, the ball falling to the feet
of Hunt who's strike was well saved by Hilton
in the Wroxham goal.
The match was now end-to-end and the fast pace
was unrelenting, so it would come as a welcome
break to all when Witham full-back Pethers had
to receive treatment following a crunching but
fair challenge by the busy Daniels.
Play resumed and it was the Witham full-back
who next had a goal-bound effort but his half
hit shot was easily saved by Hilton.
On the half-hour mark good work by the
impressive Witham pair, Emmanual and Fountain
fashioned a long range opening for Godbold but
his shot went skyward.
Witham were now on top and Wroxham had
keeper Hilton to thank as he pulled off a great
point blank save when it looked as if
Emmanual had to put Witham one up.
However, it would be the Wroxham number one
with his head in his hands moments later as
his kicked clearence only found Emmanual who
then calmly passed back inside to the
unmarked Hunt who slotted home
for the Essex side on 39mins.
Wroxham would be on the back foot for the
remainder of the first half with the last chance
falling to Hunt, shooting wide from a good
cross by Emmanual.

Josh Turner replaced the Bandage-headed
Eastaugh at half-time for Wroxham and the
first chances of the second period fell to them.
Before the crowed had all taken their seats the
industrious Matt Daniels drove into the Witham
box and his shot was stopped on the line, the
ball then rebounding to Cook who's shot
powered over the bar.
Wroxham had started the stronger and on 50
minutes a well struck Gavin Lemmon corner met
with the head of Cook who glanced over the bar.
Moments later Daniels again made strides
toward the Witham goal, Cook, again unable to
convert the chance.
On the hour, the game was still being played at
a blistering pace and neither side looked like
they wanted to cave in.
All of a sudden Witham winger Fountain picked
up the ball wide on the halfway line and made
his way into the Wroxham penalty area but
put his shot wide with only Hilton to beat.
Halliday made way for the fresh legs of Langois
in an attempt to pull back the game on 70min
and his immediate impact was enough for the
Witham bench to follow suit and some, a
double change, Walker and Stevens on for
Lopes and scorer Hunt.
Wroxham then won a corner, Turners kick
was only cleared to Gordon who's
excellent cross was met by Carus but was easily
saved by witham keeper Sambridge.
Danny Self then picked up a booking
for obstruction.
Manager Batch then changed the pack for the
last time introducing Gilfedder for the unlucky
in front of goal cook.
On 90mins Wroxham were awarded a free kick
in an advanced position but Lemmon's efforf
came to nothing.
Right on full time, Wroxham keeper Hilton
partially made up for his error for Witham's goal
saving well from Emmanual.
