Ridgeons championship winners Wroxham put in a sterling performance to consolidate their lead at the top of the table with a 2-1 win at Wisbech in a physical encounter.

Wroxham had two early chances to take the lead. In the first minute Matt Daniels battled to win the ball and charged through to set-up Ben Thompson whose 1st time shot brought a point blank save from the Wisbech ‘keeper. Then two minutes later Ross Durrant crossed for Paul Cook whose glancing header was inches wide.
Debutant keeper Liam Still for Wroxham confidently held onto to a firm shot from Ollie Gale as the home side raisd there game. They gained a corner when Shaun Howes turned the ball round under pressure and from this Neil Spafford’s header hit the post and Stacy Cartwright follow-up was turned over for another corner.
The visitors tok the lead on 19 minutes when a powerful forward header from Andy Eastaugh saw Paul Cook beat the keeper to the ball and he ran on to tap into an empty net.
Wisbech claims for handball were turned down by referee James Turner as they searched for a equaliser and then Lunn’s shot rattled the post with Still only able to watch. From the follow-up Steven Reid’s shot flashed past the post.
Wisbech finally equalised on 42 mins when Chris Bacon turned the ball in but Wroxham restored their lead immediately as Matt Daniels finished off with a left shot beyond the ‘keeper.

HT Wisbech 1 Wroxham 2

Wroxham made a good start to the second half and carved the Wisbech defence open with a three man move as Daniels set Cook away and his cross almost found Thompson but he was stretching and was unable to gain contact. Another shot from Daniels was just wide.
Liam Still who had little to do as Wroxham took control made a brilliant one handed save to his left to deny Read.
Wroxham took off Gavin Lemmon and brought on Ben Jones as they continued to dictate and another excellent move typical of the earlier one saw man of the match Daniels again finding Cook whose cross this time was almost turned in by Eastaugh at the far post.
Although Wroxham had most of the play Still needed to be alert just before the final whistle to block a shot which was heading for the net. But Wroxham held on for a well earned victory.
