Yachtsmen trounce Bloaters

Yachtsmen trounce Bloaters

Wroxham Insider21 Nov 2011 - 13:50

Wroxham were on song at The Wellesey on Tuesday night as they romped to a 7-0 victory over a struggling Great Yarmouth Town to go top of the Ridgeons Premier Division.

The game was all but over as a contest by the break as first-half goals from Paul Cousins, Matt Daniels, Ben Thompson and Paul Cook ensured there was no way back for The Bloaters.

Their misery was compounded in the second period with skipper Adam Mills putting through his own net. Cook then notched his second of the night before Gavin Lemmon completed the scoring from the penalty spot.

Wroxham were given a welcome boost ahead of kick-off with the fit again Graham Challen returning to the the starting line-up alongside Cousins and full-back Danny Self was also back in the team allowing Daniels to take up a more familiar midfield role.

David Batch’s men got off to the perfect start after just 15 minutes as ex-King’s Lynn man Cousins opened his Yachtsmen account - guiding Shaun Howes’ pin-point corner past the helpless Jamie Greygoose in the hosts goal.

Wroxham supporters didn't have to wait long for more goal action as Daniels well placed penalty made it 2-0 after Thompson had been fouled in the area. Thompson added his name to the score-sheet with a fine 15-yard volley to make it three without reply with 23 minutes on the clock.

The Yachtsmen then saw Self and Andy Eastaugh go close, before Cook ended his 8 game goal drought with a cool one-one-one finish after being played in by Eastaugh’s delightful through ball that split the Yarmouth defence wide open.

The Bloaters best chance fell to former Blofied striker Neil Hurren but his 60th minute drive shaved the post with Scott Howie at full stretch.

Home goalkeeper Greygoose had to be at his best in the 72nd minute to deny the marauding Eastaugh with a brilliant point blank save. But there was nothing he could do as Yarmouth captain Mills diverted a cross towards his own netShaun Howes, Paul Cousins Graham Challen, Andy Eastaugh, Matt Daniels, Gavin Lemmon, Paul Cook, Ben Thompson, Remi Gordon Subs: Josh Carus, Ross Durrant, Gary Gilmore, Jordan Rocastle David Hinton
