Wroxham 6-1 Great Yarmouth Town

Wroxham Insider5 Apr 2012 - 19:24

Bloaters hit for six at Trafford Park.

Early play favoured the Yachtsmen and on 5 mins, Matty Daniels made ground down the right and despite being fouled, referee Paul Burnham waived play on and the ball reached Ben Thompson who lobbed the keeper but was just wide.

On 18 mins another good Wroxham move saw Daniel’s deep cross finding Paul Cook who was unable to get over the ball and his header went wide.

Wroxham deservedly took the lead on 25 mins when following a free-kick, there was a scrimmage in the goal area where Damian Hilton turned the ball in.

Two minutes later, Wroxham added a second following a mistake by Yarmouth full-back Eddie Short who was unable to control the ball on the edge of the area and was punished as Matty Daniels nipped in and neatly lobbed Jake Jessop hitting the underside of the bar before bouncing over the line.

Wroxham were rampant at this stage with several shots on target and one from Josh Carus that just cleared the bar. Another cross from Daniels fell for Cook whose effort was cleared off the line.

Danny Self was cautioned and was fortunate to stay on as Yarmouth battled to get back in the game. They did on 40 mins when Mitch Forbes pulled a shot across Robert Woodcock into the bottom corner.

This lifted the Bloaters and early in the second period, Woodcock needed to be alert to deny Forbes.

Wroxham had a great chance to increase the lead on 58 mins when Gary Gilmore jinked down the left and crossed for Matty Daniel’s to take the ball in his stride for what seemed a certain goal but Jessop dived to his left to turn the ball round for a corner. From this, the Yatchsmen added a third when Andy Eastaugh’s header flew into the net.

Two minutes later it was four when Gavin Lemmon did well on the left and his cross found Hilton to slide the ball home.

Wroxham should have scored again a few minutes later as a cross from Self fell for substitute Jordan Rocastle who somehow missed the ball completely from almost on the line.

Yarmouth were now a spent force as Ross Durrant scored number five when he had only to pick his spot from the edge of the area. In the 87th minute it was six when Rocastle made a great run into the area but his shot was blocked and fell for Paul Cook to tap into an empty net.
