Yachtsmen fall short

Yachtsmen fall short

Chris Green4 Dec 2016 - 20:24

Wroxham fell short against a useful Bowers & Pitsea side to again drop to the foot of the table after Thamesmead beat Great Wakering.

A minutes silence was observed before the game for the Columbian air disaster.
Wroxham made a positive start with Cruise Nyadzao advancing down the right wing before cutting inside to get in a low left foot shot which was comfortably taken by ex-Thurrock keeper Rhys Madden.
However the Essex side scored in almost their first attack when left back Vinny Durrant struck with a shot on the volley from 25 yards into the top corner of the net, looping over Elliot Pride in the Wroxham goal.
A long throw into the box by Lewis Clark found ex-AFC Hornchurch striker David Knight who shot wide.
Another promising attack by Bowers looked to play Lewis Manor in behind the Wroxham defence only for Jack Guyton to make a timely interception.
Good play by Robbie Sweeney and Craig Bussens down the left for Wroxham was followed by disappointing over-hit cross sailing out for a goal kick.
A long ball hit up to Gilfedder for Wroxham was flicked on off his head in search of Nyadzayo, but good defending by Stokes prevented Nyadzayo from reaching the ball.
Wroxham played a short corner to Guyton whose cross into the box was initially spilled by Madden who recovered to gather the ball as the home side stepped up their game.
A counter attack led by Warner for Bowers and Pitsea, had options to his left but chose to take a shot on which resulted in a poor effort, straight at Pride.
Tom Rampling was pulled up for a foul wide on the touchline, with the resulting free kick delivered low and dangerously into the Wroxham before being cleared for a corner.
Then another corner delivered into the back post by Warner picking out an unmarked teammate, whose effort was cleared of the line by Guyton.
Wroxham were trying to get back in the game and a long ball up the pitch by Halliday found Ross Gilfedder who won a corner for Wroxham.
Another high ball on the edge of the box fell to Craig Bussens whose effort at goal was deflected wide for a second Wroxham corner.
Lewis Manor received the ball with his back to goal and played out to Alfie Hilton who advanced into the Wroxham box under challenge and fell to the ground. Referee Richard Owen dismissed appeals by Bowers and Pitsea players for a penalty.
The visitors stepped up their game and after Manor sliced a shot wide, they scored a second goal on 33 minutes. Hilton delivered a corner into the near post where it evaded several Wroxham defenders and past Pride straight into the net.
This was a blow to Wroxham who went in a half-time two down.
Again Wroxham started the second half in quite lively fashion but it wasn't long before a Bowers a counter attack led by Manor who took the ball down to the bye line and cut it back to Knight who arrived late and unmarked into the box only to blast the shot way over the Wroxham goal.
Wroxham made substitutions with Sam Gauntlett replacing Rampling and Datacampol on for Baughurst.
This had an effect with Matt Cook winning the ball in the middle of the Bowers and Pitsea half and playing the ball through to Bussens whose shot was off target.
Good play by Bussens and Guyton down the right side for Wroxham, resulting in finding Ben Lewis in the box his shot was deflected over the keeper and onto the crossbar.
Gauntlett misjudged a header back to Pride allowing Knight the chance to have an effort on goal but his effort sailed well over.
Bowers scored a third on 69 minutes when Knight delivered a low cross into the Wroxham box behind both centre backs and met by Warner in the 6 yard box who calmly slotted home into the bottom right corner leaving Pride no chance.
Wroxham might have gone further behind but Pride made a good save in a one on one with Lewis Manor who denied the Bowers player again with another fine save.
Although Wroxham put in a more positive second half performance they were often caught on the break by an impressive Bowers side who extended their winning run to 6 games.
