There was much optimism before the game following Saturday’s 4-0 win against VCD but in reality this was a below par performance in comparison.
Manager Damian Hilton kept faith with the team that started against VCD but Wroxham were unable to maintain their form on a sticky pitch following heavy rain on Sunday & Monday.
The first 30 minutes were quite even and Wroxham had the best chance of taking the lead when Katabana’s header was just wide.
But it was Soham who took the lead on 37 minutes when Wroxham failed to close down the visitors and in came a cross from the right which Elliot Pride punched away but only as far as Ryan Sharman. The Greens leading scorer did not hesitate to take advantage and fired the ball back in the net through a forest of players.
Almost on half-time Soham doubled their lead and it was that man Sharman again who headed in from another cross.
Wroxham still had time for Ben Lewis to get in a shot from the edge of the area but his effort was narrowly wide. The closing moments made the prospect of getting back doubly difficult although it could be said Wroxham didn’t deserve to be two down.
There were no goals in the second half but the chances created mostly went Soham’s way as Wroxham lacked desire on a pitch which hampered their style of play but seemed to suit the visitors.
Soham had a good chance soon after halftime as they opened up the Wroxham defence but Matt Halliday stuck out a leg to put the ball behind just as a visiting player was about to shoot.
A mistake by Tom Rampling was also almost punished as Hilton decided changes were needed. Danny Rogers replaced Cassimiro Datacampol and Jordan Rocastle came on for Davillian Katabana.
With Wroxham pushing forward, Soham still looked dangerous on the break as Sharman went close with a shot on the turn which was only just wide.
Matt Cook collided with an opponent and came off worse and had to hobble off to be replaced by Charlie Norman.
Although Wroxham continued to press forward there was no real conviction about their play particularly in the final third. Soham were showing far more determination and a cracking shot by Relizani as he cut across the edge of the area was only just over the crossbar.
Soham again split the Wroxham defence as Relizani set up sub Marcus Hall with a delightful lob and he seemed certain to score with a curler which didn’t quite have enough on it as it went past the far post.
Wroxham ran out of time and just didn’t look like scoring on the night. They must now pick themselves up for Saturdays six pointer away to Gt Wakering.
