Wroxham ‘keeper Elliot Pride was forced into a fine full length save on the 5th minute to rurn Harley Black’s fierce 25 yard drive away for a corner. The Yachtsmen responded with Matt Halliday firing wide after Payton Swatman’s deep free-kick had reached him outside the box.
Kyle Baker delivered two searching crosses for Wroxham before the visitors won a free-kick 35 yards out. Ryan Crisp’s centre into the danger area fell to Jake Anema but the defender hooked the ball over.
As the Magpies continued to press, ex-Yachtman David Hinton found Adam Smith who fired a 25 yard left foot effort wide of the target. Dereham then had a penalty appeal turned down for a challenge on Joe Gatting by ‘keeper Pride.
The visitors were at this stage controlling play with Hinton showing up in midfield and Gatting the focal point for most of their attacks.
But Wroxham missed two gilt edge chances to break the deadlock through Cook and Halliday and were made to pay when Dereham took the lead in the 43rd minute. Ryan Crisp’s corner from the right came out to Hinton ran across the edge of the box to beat Pride with a well placed low drive. Although the Dereham supporters raised loud cheers Hinton did not celebrate his goal against his old side.
After the break Crisp had a low drive deflected inches wide before Ben Lewis was introduced by Wroxham for Cruize Nyadzayo and immediately chipped a fine ball into Ross Gilfedder who headed inches over.
As the home side threatened again Baker’s low drive was well blocked by Dion Frary. Soon after Baker went off with an injury and was replaced by Davillian Katabana. Play was now open and Dereham won a free-kick 30 yards out, with Danny Beaumont’s deflected low effort being well saved by Pride in the 70th minute. Dereham substitute Rhys Logan then delivered a cross-cum shot that Pride was able to grasp.
Wroxham drew level in the 83rd minute when Vincent Datacampol fired home from close range following a goalmouth scramble after Katabana’s shot was blocked.
Katabana then had a chance for glory to win the game for Wroxham but his effort landed on the top netting. Then Jay Eastoe-Smith cleared off the line as Wroxham applied more pressure.
Gatting later turned and steered Beaumont’s header wide of the target before in added time, the Dereham striker saw his close range shot blocked by Pride’s reflex outstretched leg following Logan’s ball from the right.
Dereham were on top during the first half but Wroxham more than matched them in the second with a draw a fair result. Wroxham are now showing some consistency with one defeat in eight games and look forward to extending this run at Waltham Abbey , also in the bottom three, on Saturday.
