A well taken 90th minute strike from Jordan Rocastle earned a morale boosting 2-2 draw for The Yachtsmen who had lost their first eight games. The somersault in celebration by the striker was worthy of an Olympic gymnast!
The kick off was delayed to 8.00pm following a floodlight failure.
Opening play was fairly even but Heybridge appeals for a penalty in the 12th minute when Norwich City loanee Jamie Eaton-Collins fell in the area were rejected by referee Paul Burnham.
The best chance for the home side came two minutes later when Kyle Baker cut in from the left but his shot was straight at Danny Sambridge.
Opponents Heybridge Swifts went in front on 17 minutes through George Cole who side footed home after the ball was worked down the right and he converted the cross. On 22 minutes Baker again went close as he got into the six yard box and his shot was blocked off the keeper’s legs.
Baker was then taken off injured and replaced by Ben Lewis who made an immediate impact with a firm shot that went narrowly wide. Lewis then equalised for Wroxham on the half hour mark with another excellent shot that this time found the net.
Five minutes later Elliott Pride made a fine save to turn a shot round for a corner but from this the visitors were back in front . Wroxham were unable to clear the ball and Glen Little powered forward to score through a narrow gap by the near post.
Wroxham almost equalised again when Ross Gilfedder found the back of the net but it was disallowed for offside on Matt Halliday.
Both sides had chances after the break and Wroxham saw a 30 yard shot by Gilfedder beaten away and a first time return volley by Cruise Nyadzayo go narrowly wide. A header from Ollie Ebbage went into the side netting.
Wroxham were applying lots of pressure but were unable to open a solid Heybridge defence.
At the other end a shot from Michael Salako ended in the woods and a George Cole curler towards the far post looked to be going in but Pride had it covered. A driven cross from the right only needed a touch to turn it in but Eaton-Collins was unable to apply it.
Wroxham were just not getting any luck as Datacampol side footed wide with a clear chance.
Ex-Maldon player Solako hit the bar with an overhead kick after good work by Little.
The game was end to end and Gilfedder set up Ben Fowkes for a long range shot that was taken low down by Sambridge. The Heybridge goalkeeper excelled with a double save to deny Datacampol and a rebound from substitute Jordan Rocastle was blocked.
Heybridge almost stole the points when Solako’s shot came off the bar and the follow-up was netted but the officials flag was up for offside.
With time running out Wroxham scored the equaliser they deserved as Rocastle had the final say in injury time. Picking the ball up on the edge of the box and taking a touch forward he then found the back of the net with a well struck shot.
The relief was there for all to see as Wroxham got off the mark and a good performance suggested there is more to come.
