Away day blues as Ware run out winners

Away day blues as Ware run out winners

Adrian Gowling18 Sep 2016 - 09:51

It was the same story as their previous seven league games for Wroxham as they succumbed to another defeat. Ware ran out 3-1 winners as the Yachtsmen had another away journey back to Norfolk without any points.

It was the same story as their previous seven league games for Wroxham as they succumbed to another defeat. Ware ran out 3-1 winners as the Yachtsmen had another away journey back to Norfolk without any points.

Wroxham lined up with new signing Emilio Camala paired up front with Jordan Rocastle. In midfield, Ross Gilfedder and Kyle Baker provided width with Cassimiro Datocampol and Payton Swatman sitting in the central midfield. In defence, Charlie Norman came into the side with Jake Platten and Matt Halliday and Ben Lewis in the centre-back pairing. Elliot Pride returned as goalkeeper after missing last week’s game due to family commitments.

The Yachtsmen started the game positively and Camala was involved in a lot of the play as the big man/ little man pairing up front looked to get in behind the Ware defence.

Ware had the first chance of the game as the lively Aston Goss got a cross in to the back post where Nathan Makuna headed it back for Josh Oyibo to fire towards goal. Elliot Pride got down well to push the ball wide of the right post for a corner. In a game that was resembling as basketball game as each team took turns to attack, Kyle Baker twisted and turned the defender as he picked up Camala’s head on. Baker made space for himself but the opportunity was spurned as he pulled his shot wide.

Again Baker made a great chance for Wroxham and his cross reached Jordan Rocastle but his lay back was cleared by the Ware defence. Immediately, Ware broke and Oyibo’s shot was blocked magnificently by Pride at the edge of his penalty area.

The game was entertaining for the sparse crowd with opportunities for each side coming regularly. Rocastle and Gilfedder were both looking lively for the Yachtsmen whilst Ware were causing problems for Wroxham’s defence. Ware had a shout for a penalty with Gareth Price going down in the penalty area whilst under pressure from Ben Lewis. It did look rather like the forward was looking for it as opposed to actually earning it.

Referee Robert Claussen and his assistants incurred the wrath of the Wroxham management as they were making some strange decisions. Obvious throw in’s and free kicks were being awarded to the other side and Ken Charlery was also shaking his head as part of the sideshow of the game.

Just after the half-hour, Ware took the lead. A ball across the Wroxham area was not cleared and Brian Haule fired home past Pride,
Not long after Jordan Rocastle became the first player in the referee’s notebook. A bouncing ball saw the striker stretch to reach but he connected with the mid-rift of the Ware player. Something that he made more of than necessary.

Wroxham had a chance with a long throw from Ben Lewis but Rocastle’s shot was volleyed wide of the goal. Rocastle had the ball in the net in the 40th minute. A cross from Charlie Norman from the left to Rocastle was put away with his head but the assistant had raised his flag for offside.

As half-time came around, Wroxham fell further behind. A tussle midway into the Wroxham half right in front of the referee’s assistant saw the referee award a free kick to Ware. It was obvious to every other person in the ground that the foul was committed by the Ware player. Goss’s free kick into the area saw Haule rise unmarked to head home past Pride and to dent the Yachtsmen’s hopes.

The second half began with Wroxham on the offensive as they looked to get back into the game. Jake Platten became the second Yachtsman to go into the referee’s notebook as he stopped a Ware break towards the Wroxham goal.

A Kyle Baker free kick towards the back post caused Ware’s defence problems and Gilfedder’s goal-bound shot was deflected over for a corner.

Damian Hilton looked for some inspiration and introduced Cruise Nyadzayo for Camala. The pacey attacking midfielder went on to give the Ware left back problems.

In the 57th minute, Wroxham pulled a goal back. Gilfedder beat the offside and got his cross into the area. Kyle Forster in the Ware goal could only parry the ball to Jordan Rocastle who fired home to make it 2-1.

Ben Fowkes was introduced to replace Kyle Baker who had previously been clattered by a Ware defender. Something that the referee failed to act upon.

Wroxham thought they’d equalized with Ross Gilfedder rising in the area to put his header past the keeper but on this occasion the officials saw a push to disallow the goal.

The game began to lose its fluency as substitutes broke up the play. With Wroxham pushing forward for an equalizer. Ware were able to break away and seal the victory. A long ball through to Gareth Price allowed the striker to lift the ball past the advancing Elliot Pride.

A foul on Payton Swatman saw the Wroxham captain walk off gingerly and Tom Rampling came on for the final few minutes.

Wroxham now have to pick themselves up for Tuesday night as Heybridge Swifts visit Trafford Park. With no points for the first eight games, it is looking a long season.
