Wroxham's wait for their first points of the season goes on despite a lively performance against Bury Town at Trafford Park. The final score was unjust, but the Yachtsmen's lack of goals is becoming a concern.
Wroxham lined up with Elliot Pride in goal, Jackson Ramm, Jake Platten, Ollie Ebbage and Matt Halliday at the back, Casimiro Datacampol, David Hinton, Kevin Coyle and Kyle Baker in midfield and then Payton Swatman supporting the frontman Ross Gilfedder.
The first hour of thematch was nip and tuck with Wroxham exerting great pressure and creating the most of what chances there were. Bury went into this match third in the table after a good start to the season, and they gave the Yachtsmen a warning shot when Ollie Hughes broke and beat Ollie Ebbage and the advancing Elliot Pride only for Matt Halliday to get back to clear the ball off the line.
This chance came at the end of a first half that Wroxham had controlled but without carving out any clear cut opportunities. The first chance they did make came after good work from Ramm on the right. He played it to Coyle who took a shot from outside the area that went just wide of the upright.
On 39 minutes Pride produced a fine stop at his near post. Ollie Hughes was again the unfortunate striker after great work down the blues right side.
On 43 minutes Bury felt the should have had a penalty. Ebbage brought down Mayhew but the referee Mr Quick was not interested.
After a goalless first half, Wroxham created the first 2 chances of the second half. The hardworking Ross Gilfedder held the ball up well on the edge of the box before turning and shooting just wide. 3 minutes later man of the match David Hinton broke well and played in Gilfedder who had his shot deflected wide. From the resulting corner a defensive header from Bury's Kyron Clements was cleared off the line. When your luck is out, it really is out!
This chance kicked Bury into life who took the lead on the hour mark. A corner from the right led to Tom Debenham heading home.
After Ebbage had hobbled off on 50 mins he was replaced by Jordan Rocastle. The substitute was lurking with Gilfedder and they both nearly got on the end of a Kyle Baker cross that just beat everyone.
As Wroxham chased the game, Bury scored two further goals. Josh Mayhew and Noel Aitkens getting on the end of long balls to tap in when Pride maybe should have dealt with the danger.
Wroxham kept going to their credit, Daracampol trying a long shot on 82 minutes. This was unfortunately high wide and not so handsome. A deflection off a car taking it into a neighbour's garden. Wroxham continued to push, but could never find the quality to find the net and the Blues saw the game out.
Bury Town went top of the league on tonight's result, whilst Wroxham were left to think of what might have been, They need to go again at home on Saturday against Maldon and Tiptree and to try to break their duck for the season.
