Wroxham can take many positives for the season ahead from a performance only missing a result at the end of it. The Yachtsmen were organised, disciplined and committed in a match that had chances at a premium against Cheshunt, a side tipped by many to be challenging at the top of the league this season.

Wroxham received a boost as the team sheets were exchanged before kick off as their nemesis Jason Hallett who had scored 5 of the Ambers 6 goals in the 2 fixtures last season was absent. The striker being on holiday on the first day of the season.

The Yachtsmen meanwhile started with Elliot Pride in goal, a back four of Steve Taylor, Nick Bailey, Oli Ebbage and Ben Lewis. In midfield were Robbie-Lee Sweeney, Jack Garrod, Payton Swatman, Ben Fowkes and Jordan King. Kyle Baker played up front. On the substitutes bench were Aarron Taylor, Jordan Rocastle, Lewis Sturman and Cruise Nyadzayo.

The first half saw chances for both sides only coming from set pieces. In open play Wroxham's back four looked assured with Taylor, Bailey, Lewis and Ebbage doing well to contain the visitor's attack. Cheshunt struggled to create any clear chances on goal.

Ebbage missed Wroxham's best chance of the first half. A corner from the right being volleyed wide.

Cheshunt eventually carved out a few opportunities in the second half and in the 66th minute Wroxham went behind. The Ambers won a corner and Luke Illsley's header hit the post. The rebound was turned goalwards by Joe Kizzi only for Steve Taylor to put through his own net as he tried to clear the ball off the line.

The match was wrapped up on 80 mins when Kizzi scored from another corner.

Substitute Jordan Rocastle had a great chance to open his Ryman League account when he appeared to break the offside trap but the referee's assistant raised his flag as the debutant slotted the ball home.

One note of concern for the Yachtsmen was when Jack Garrod limped off on 81 mins. His presence will be needed for the battles to come, starting at Dereham on Tuesday night.
