No change in fortune as Cray sink Yachtsmen

Adrian Gowling20 Apr 2016 - 20:10

A final home game defeat for the Yachtsmen as Cray ran out 4-0 winners in the re-arranged tie, writes Tom Wardle.

Cray left the Yachtsmen wondering whether they will keep above the drop zone at the end of the season, as Leigh Bremner inspired the visitors to a 0-4 win at Trafford Park.

Elliot Pride started in goal for the Yachtsmen; Jackson Ramm, Matt Halliday, Michael Sommerfield and Nick Bailey started at the back for the home side. Steve Taylor, Jack Garrod, David Hinton and Jack Guyton all started in the midfield. Which left Nick Davey and Jamie Forshaw start up front. Aarron Taylor, Tom Cullumbine, Joel Potter, Jordan King and Jordan Attree all started on the bench for the Yachtsmen's final home game of the season.

Cray Wanderers started off fantastically against the Yachtsmen. They were playing the ball around quickly, and tidily on the uneven surface at Trafford Park. The first minute saw Leigh Bremner's shot from just inside the penalty area, deflected and then caught by Elliot Pride. 2 minutes later, Aryan Tajbakdsh saw his shot from the right hand side saved at ease by Pride. However, after just 4 minutes in, a fantastic passing move on the edge of the Wroxham box between Michael Frieter, Leigh Bremner and Ray Powell eventually saw Frieter put past Pride from inside the six yard box to put the visitors a goal up.

The home side stepped up there game after the goal. 5 minutes later, David Hinton played a glorious through ball for Jackson Ramm to run on too. The right back then crossed the ball into the six yard box creating havoc. Nick Davey saw two shots blocked on the line and scrambled to safety, as Cray somehow keep it at 0-1. A few minutes later, Jack Garrod won the ball on the half way line, and fooled the Cray defender with a bit of skill, however Garrod was stopped in his tracks and was brought down from behind, but no card was given.Instead, Jamie Mascoll's switch of play saw Leigh Bremner try an audacious volley, but his shot went well wide of the Wroxham goal.

However 17 minutes in, a magnificent solo effort from Jamie Mascoll saw the away side go 2 goals up. Mascoll went past 3 Wroxham defenders on the left hand side before smashing the ball into the left hand side of the goal to give Wroxham an up hill battle if they wanted to secure safety that night. 10 minutes later, Jamie Forshaw latched onto a ball over over the top of the Cray defence. The forward brought the ball down, before bamboozling the defender, and saw his shot saved from a tight angle. Forshaw and Guyton both had shots go well wide of the goal in the remainder of the half, but no real action as Cray had the majority of possession.

Wroxham started much better in the second half, as Jackson Ramm eased past 3 Cray Players, as he drifted inside from the right. However his shot went narrowly wide of the right hand post and the ball rolled out for a goal kick. Jack Garrod then saw his cross from mid way inside the attacking half nearly force a save from the keeper, as it just missed the cross bar, and went onto the roof of the net. With 10 minutes gone in the second half, the home side made there first substitution of the game, as Nick Davey was replaced by Tom Cullumbine.

Straight after the substitution, Cray put the game to bed, as a brilliant cross was whipped in from the left hand side. Leigh Bremner drifted away from his marker before heading past pride and into the right of the net to make it 0-3.Leigh Bremner went close 5 minutes later, however his shot from the edge of the area was pulled wide of the right hand post. The Yachtsmen then made another substitution, as Nick Bailey came off, and was replaced by Joel Potter on the left hand side.Joel Potter was involved instantly, as he saw his cross from the left caught at the second attempt from Nick Blue, in goal for Cray.

Michael Frieter went close twice in quick succession. His first chance saw him brilliantly control the ball, before pilling the ball wide of the right post. then a few minutes later, his volley was blasted from the edge of the area. With under 20 minutes left, Jackson Ramm made way for Jordan king. However in the 78th minute, a mistake in defence allowed Leigh Bremner through on goal, and the striker made no mistake, as he finished nicely and made it 0-4.

Overall, Cray were much the better team throughout and although the Yachtsmen had a few good spells of pressure, they lacked a bit of creativity going forward. making it easy for the defence. however, Jamie Forshaw put in a magnificent performance and showed the passion and desire needed to secure safety on Saturday when Wroxham travel to Romford.
