Persistent rain coupled with strong wind and a stoppage time goal sunk the Yachtsmen at Barkingside in a six pointer at the bottom of the table.
Elliot Pride remained in goal for the Yachtsmen; Michael Sommerfield dropped back into defence and was the only change in the Wroxham defence from last week's loss at home to Haringey, as Stephen Taylor started on the right, Nick Bailey started on the left and Matt Halliday partnered Sommerfield in the centre. Lewis Sturman and Liam Fryatt started in front of the defence, with Jack Garrod and Joel Potter switching from left to right during the game. Jamie Forshaw started just behind Jordan Attree who led the line up front. Jordan King, Bradley Spooner, Daniel Rogers, Jack Lincoln and Gavin Lemmon were all named on the bench. Barkingside meanwhile had drafted in a number of players on loan from Dagenham & Redbridge in their side along with former Norwich City midfielder Clint Easton who is also a coach named as a substitute.
The home side started on the front foot straight from kick off as Michael Spencer's run down the right resulted in a cross, but the ball floated over everyone and out for a goal kick to the Yachtsmen. After the early attack for Barkingside, Wroxham started to take control. With 5 minutes on the clock, Jack Garrod won the ball out wide before driving into the centre of the pitch and playing a wonderful through ball to Jordan Attree, but the ball ran on for Tyler McCarthy to collect for Barkingside. Just short of the 10 minute mark the visitors had their first shot of the game, Nick Bailey's pass to Jack Garrod on the edge of the box saw his shot deflected and roll out for a corner.
However in the 11th minute Wroxham made the breakthrough. Jack Garrod received the ball half way into the Barkingside half before chipping the ball over the top of the defence to Jamie Forshaw. His touch took him slightly wide of the goal, but pulled it back to Jordan Attree who put in from close range to give the Yachtsmen a well deserved lead. Barkingside started to up their game after the goal, as Elliot Pride was called into action immediately, but Spencer's shot from the edge of the area was straight at the Wroxham goalkeeper. 5 minutes later Pride was once again called into action, this time a long ball forward found the feet of Spencer, but Pride rushed out and blocked the shot before putting it out for a throw. Nick Bailey then made an outstanding tackle, as Spencer was about to pull the trigger on the edge of the six yard box. A sliding tackle from the Wroxham left back stopped the shot and the ball was eventually cleared.
The Yachtsmen then very nearly went further in front, as Jack Garrod's run down the right hand side, saw the winger pull the ball back for Jamie Forshaw on the penalty spot but his shot narrowly missed the top of the goal.
In the 26th minute Barkingside's pressure told and the equaliser pegged back Wroxham. Michael Ademiliu cut inside from the left before his deflected shot fell for Michael Spencer in space and he was able to find the net from close range. Elliot Pride was called into action once more in the first half, as Jimmy Shepherd's chipped ball over the top of the Wroxham defence saw Luke With head the ball before hitting it on the half volley from a tight angle but his shot was confortably saved by Pride.
Wroxham started the second half brightly, as Stephen Taylor saw his cross from the right hand side headed narrowly wide by Lewis Sturman. 2 minutes later a cross in from the right hand side saw Barkingside's Leon Smith header caught by Pride. Elliot Pride released the ball quickly up to Jamie Forshaw, who controlled it brilliantly before taking on two players, but was pulled back by a Barkingside defender, not allowing him to run through on goal, the referee then brought it back for a free kick in a promising position for the Yachtsmen. Jack Garrod's free kick curled wide of the goal.
Jamie Forshaw was at the thick of things again for Wroxham, as his touch down allowed him to play the ball down the right hand side before Stephen Taylor saw his teasing cross into the box fumbled by Tyler McCarthy, but he did well to collect on the 2nd attempt. Luke With then had a chance for the home side, but his improvised shot from the edge of the six yard box narrowly missed the right hand post. 10 minutes later Michael Spencer's scissor kick in the Wroxham box didn't trouble Pride and went sailing over the bar.
Jordan Attree came off and was replaced by Danny Rogers, and the forward was involved straight away. Joel Potter's run down the left hand side saw him cross into the box but Rogers' shot was deflected and fell kindly for McCarthy. Joel Potter then took a quick corner on the right hand side, the ball fell for Liam Fryatt who's glorious chip was inches away from giving the Yachtsmen the lead. The game then saw a controversial moment as Wroxham appeared to be penalised by the referee despite no-one else seeing the incident. A cross from the left hand side saw McCarthy drop the ball into the path of Danny Rogers who put the ball into the back of the net, but the referee saw a push on the goal keeper as he collided with his own defender and the home side were given the free kick.
Heartache then followed as in stoppage time at the end of the game. A Barkingside corner was only cleared as far as Ademiliu on the corner of the six yard box and the midfielder smashed the ball into the back of the net to give Barkingside a much needed win in the six pointer at the bottom of the table.
