Substitute Alexander Cathline pinched the points in the last 10 minutes for Haringey Borough in a game which lacked many chances.
Elliot Pride started in goal for Wroxham; whilst Stephen Taylor, Aarron Taylor kept their paces in the Yachtsmen defence. Nick Bailey making his debut after signing from Great Yarmouth as left full back for the Yachtsmen and Matt Halliday came in for Gavin Lemmon. Michael Sommerfield pushed up into the centre midfield spot, and was joint by Liam Fryatt who was also making his debut on loan for Wroxham, the midfielder replaced David Hinton. Joel Potter pushed up from left back and up to left midfield, whilst Jack Garrod remained on the right hand side. Ben Jones made his second appearance of the season for Wroxham, and finally Jamie Forshaw started up front, replacing Nick Davey, who still hasn’t fully recovered from last week’s injury.
Neither side managed to get any real grip of the game in the opening 20 minutes of the game, although the first shot of the game came after 10 minutes and it went to the visitors. Daniel Walker's free kick from the half way line was headed out for a corner by debutant Nick Bailey. 5 minutes later Jamie Forshaw ran into space in the Haringey box, but at a very tight angle his shot hit the near post side-netting. Again Forshaw very nearly found himself through on goal, Michael Sommerfield played a through ball over the top of the Borough defence, which then saw Forshaw control the ball before Leon Wilson slid in brilliantly to dispossess the Wroxham forward.
30 minutes in, Wroxham had started to have a few half chances, but it was still a very even game. Anthony McDonald saw his long shot curl wide left of the goal, before Dean Fenton’s shot was pulled right of Elliot Pride’s goal with the keeper yet to be tested. 2 minutes later, Stephen Taylor curled in a dipping cross from the right hand side, but the ball was cleared well at the back post. With 10 minutes left of the half, Jack Garrod won a free kick on the right hand side of the edge of the area, but the following free kick from Garrod was blocked.
5 minutes before half time, the ball found Jack Garrod down the right hand side, he went past a Haringey defender before driving the ball into the near post from the goal-line. Mikheil Kharshiladze got down well to parry the ball onto the post before going out for a Wroxham corner. Just before the end of the first half, a dangerous Stephen Taylor cross into the box from the right hand side saw a goal mouth scramble before eventually getting cleared by the Haringey defence.
A couple of minutes into the second half, Wroxham had a very good chance to break the deadlock. Jamie Forshaw’s half volley from the edge of the box saw the Haringey keeper brilliantly palm away a fizzing shot on goal. The loose ball found Jack Garrod but his shot was pulled wide of the goal. 5 minutes later Jamie Forshaw’s free kick from the left hand side was cleared once again by a Borough defender. Elliot Pride was then called into action for the Yachtsmen, as a through ball found the forward run from Anthony McDonald whose shot to the left of the goal was pushed away by Pride and out of any danger.
15 minutes into the second half Jamie Forshaw found space down the right hand side, but his teasing cross was collected well by the visitors’ keeper. Haringey then had 2 chances to try and get the breakthrough. Daniel Aristdou’s cross from the left hand side was missed by Ishmail Kamara and the ball went out for a goal kick. A few minutes later Ishmail Kamara managed to get his head on the ball, but his header on goal was brilliantly saved to the right hand side by Elliot Pride.
The best chance of the second half fell to Stephen Taylor with 20 minutes remaining. A Jack Garrod curling cross was met by the head of Taylor on the edge of the six yard box, but the right back couldn’t keep his attempt on target as his header flew over the bar. Rakim Richards then went very close for the visitors, as his cross from the half way line was over hit, but dipped before reaching the goal and just cleared the Wroxham crossbar.
Wroxham made their first substitution with 15 minutes left, as Jordan King replaced Joel Potter. However, 6 minutes from the end of the game, Haringey made one of their substitution's pay as Alexander Cathline latched onto a throughball before putting the ball past Pride and into the back of the net. As a stunned homeside tried to get back into the game, Wroxham became frustrated with the actions of the Borough players who were taking the chance to fall down as often as they could. Ultimately, their tactics bore fruit as the referee brought the game to an end.
Overall both teams failed to create many chances and Haringey's substitution proved to be the matchwinner. Wroxham had a lot of possession but couldn’t get the ball into players in the danger areas. They will hope to end this 2 game losing streak next week away to Barkingside who sit one place below them in the league. Wroxham remain in 22nd place in the league on goal difference below Waltham Abbey who also were defeated yesterday.
